I hope you are a genuine poster and not a troll because people do genuinely get in trouble with the benefits, it happened to me and all I was guilty of was not realising i had to report something that meant I got less money, it was a terrifying experience and not one I would want to repeat, now I report everything and I mean everything, they write to me to tell me not to keep telling them things.Blackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

"some extra cash which i thought was allowed" - erm you thought getting £60k was allowed?
Prison is certainly a possibility for that level of money.
I know your allowed to play online poker if your on benefits.
As for the amount , yes i thought this was ok too , i wasnt claiming jobseekers etc , i wasnt working and i was paying my rent.
I didnt realise this affected my child tax credits.
Obviously now i realise it does affect this.0 -

Thanks for the help and feedback so far folks.
P.S. I am certainly by the looks of it guilty of being naive but i didnt set out to defraud anyone , i hadnt been in this situation before and should have sought advice to know what i should/shouldnt have been claiming , hindsight is 20/20 though.
Well, ye ken the noo!0 -
Im not sure what yous mean by "troll" i have a problem and have posted here for advice thats about the crux of it.0

We have agreed - you do have a problem. There is no way around it, I'm afraid.
As it was only last year that you won the £60,000, can you not at least offer to repay 50% of your benefits right away? If you've had the benefits weekly/monthly, however little, you cannot surely have got through the whole £60,000 .....or have you lost it the same way that you acquired it?0 -

Why did you think it was ok to have £60k whilst claiming income support? especially as none of that is Child benefit, as that is paid entirely separately, and would show on your bank statement separately from any income support payments.0 -

I was in reciept of income support when i won the money in november for myself and 2 kids. The laws on this changed around March/April and i was told that to continue to recieve this i would have to actively seek employement as my kids were over 13 years old so i discontinued my claim around April.
The only benefits ive had since then have been child tax credits.
So i guess they must be talking about the period up until April as it said in relation to "income support" on the letter.
Although im unsure how this affects the child tax credits/child benefit also.0 -

But why did you not declare it in November? This is what you will be asked at interview!Gone ... or have I?0 -
Tax credits count the interest on the savings that you have - so you need to declare those.0
