so what someone has won some money by doing something there obviously good at .

i too would like someone previously posted ,invest the money into a small business for the future .

yes maybe thy have done wrong by not declaring it ,but our goverment and rules suck big time ,instead of saying "well you owe us xxx amount of money and you have to pay it back " they throw you in jail how dumb is that ??? more tax payers money lost .

but if you commit death by dangerous driving because you were drunk you get a 3 year sentence ,serve 18 months of it and are back out on the road again with a clear concience .

this goverment is money mad rob the poor feed the rich , didnt see any of the MP'S go to jail for fraud when they were furnishing there houses with 20 and 30 grand scams .

but would send a mother with kids to jail for a few grand .
I think you need to post the above in DT

Just to correct some mistaken information:
Child Tax Credit is not affected by the claimants capital (savings), nor by the claimant receiving a tax-free income such as that from gambling. My family receive substantial amounts in tax credits: they began when I was unemployed but declared my savings of more than 20,000 pounds and so could not receive income-based JSA, and continue now that I have a substantial tax-free income (I have diplomatic status). I have been very careful about declaring everything.

The OP is likely to be in trouble purely because of claiming Income Support. Assuming that s/he admitted everything at the first opportunity and explained that the offence had been committed by mistake, prosecution is fairly unlikely.

Utter tosh. Very few people get sent to jail for benefit fraud. Those that do are at the worst end of the scale.

Oh and can you send your cheque to HM treasury; £50k shoul cover it - you're clearly supportive of benefit fraud being paid for by the taxpayer, so you need to put your share in. :D
