I've had access also since about day 1 with no problems at all.

    Used today with no issue.

Never had a problem with the online site.

You are using your account number (as on statement) rather than the card number to login aren't you. They are different.
  • Received a letter from GE Money today saying that this type of account will cease on 14th November 2007. A huge shame, I'm sure there isn't anything quite as generous available in the cashback department, and I assume that is the reason for it's demise.

It was good while it lasted. Will have to make sure we make the most of the last few months.

I had my letter today too.

Such a shame as I was saving plenty :D. I'll have to get myself another similar card somewhere else.

Me too. Still, I guess it couldn't go on forever...

Will have to get on with buying that 32 inch LCD tv from Tesco before 14/9/07.

We all knew it couldn`t last but why couldn`t they just drop the cashback to 0.5 % or something.

I have a few other cards so it wont affect me too much but some may struggle to get another card.

What did it say? I presume they won't be closing our accounts and they're just withdrawing the cashback. Are they replacing it with any other benefit? Without the cashback, I can't think of a single reason for keeping this card.

As others have said, it probably was too good to last and we've done quite well out of this card. I never pay interest and I've only ever used mine for transactions that attract the 3% rate. I don't suppose I'm very profitable and perhaps there are too many other customers like me

As I always pay off cards in full, I've been a bit of a cashback tart in the past few years. My Halifax and Accucard (Lloyds TSB) cards have gone the same way. As I'm jinxed, maybe I should apologise in advance for being an Egg Money customer.

Seriously, maybe these experiences show that companies that are honest enough to say that their cashback is just an introductory offer are more deserving of our custom.

Edit: I see that there are other threads on the subject and the accounts are indeed going to be closed! This seems like madness on GE's part as some customers would have stayed through inertia. Maybe we're even more unprofitable than I thought! I don't really care as it'll save ringing to cancel.

Neither can GE - hence they are closing all the accounts from the 14 November, unless you owe them money in which case the account will stay open until the balance has cleared.

However, the card itself will stop working from November and no more cashback will be earned from then.

I earnt about £100 from this card so it's a shame to see it go. I'll be looking for the next best deal I can find, at least I've got my Amazon card if nowt else

  • I'm using a 4% introductory rate on a Capital One card at the moment. I'd hoped the 3% on fuel with GE Money would last for some years yet.

Despite the generous terms, it is still a pain having to change cards so, unless GE Money offer a better deal, I will choose another CC company in preference. I'm pleased that they are cancelling the card rather than keeping it in force but without the benefits - that would have been sneaky.

Must remember to fill all the cars on 13 November.

    :)
