Hi Sorry to hijack this thread but this morning my 3% card worked in ASDA but tonight it would not be accepted in TESCO. Both are branches where I've used the card several times before. My payments and balance are cleared fully each month. Any suggestions or has this happened to anyone else, I know that some people have had the card not accepted in the past?
Have a look at other posts in this thread. Sometimes there's a valid reason, sometimes it's random. Before my card was accepted (first time) at the petrol pump last night, I'd had to get the checkout operator in the store to try four or five times before the reader would accept it. This happens quite a lot, and more often in supermarkets than elsewhere. It always gets accepted in the end, except (until the last time I tried) at the self-service petrol pumps.

My GE Card was rejected last night @ Morrisons petrol station (5:55pm). Had them try it a couple of times but it kept returning 'not authorised'. Ended up using a different mastercard.

When I got home I phoned them up and CS guy said that there was no record of any attempt to take payment but rather than fob me off with a 'It must be their system' - He told me that it was strange he'd had several other calls during that hour from customers with exact same issue. I also told him that I'd used another mastercard for the purchase that went through no probs.

He's added my comments to my account notes

There are quite a few previous comments on this happening with the GE card. Mostly it appears to have been Asda automated pumps to date.

You would almost think that they didn't want you spending money so they can avoid sending you the 3% cashback!

I've had a couple of problems using my GE Money card lately. A couple of weeks ago, I took a book back to Boarders which I'd bought using my GE card. After five attempts, the machine just wouldn't accept my card and allow the payment to go back on.

I thought that this might be because money was being added to the card. But then a week later, I used it again in Sainsbury's and it just wouldn't accept it but later the same day, it was accepted at Shell.

Until then, I'd never had a problem using my card. All very strange!

Because my statement arrived later than normal, I phoned up for my balance and paid it in full using the automated service. I ended up paying more than I was supposed to for December and thought that might be the reason why I've had problems? But then why would that make a difference?

Most annoying that I couldn't use it in Sainsbury's seeing as that is one of the places where we can still get 3% cash-back!
  • Hi After my card was rejected earlier in the week it was accepted on Friday and is still being accepted. So looks like a glitch in their system. Are people still getting cashback deducted from their statement bills or are GE building it up for cheque payment?

Thanks to those who replied to my question earlier in the week. Thanks on the way.

I had my card rejected twice last week in places where I had used it before (never happened before). I phoned them and they admitted they were having problems...

I've never known a card to have so many teething problems. No online banking, intermittent problems, cashback not set-up properly (though we have all greatly benefited from that one!)...it's like a card from the 20th century!
  • I tried to use my GE Money card to pay a water rates bill (to Northumbrian Water) last night.

NW would not accept the card because it had neither a 'valid from date' nor an 'issue number' and, the lady at NW suggests, cards have to have one or the other.

Has anybody else come across this problem?

    :)
