GE '3%' Cashback Card
Comments

A similar thing happened to me.
On Friday I tried purchasing some Argos vouchers from Energyplusargos.co.uk but my GE money card was not accepted with similar message as above i.e. not authorised.
On Saturday GE security called about this and they said the charge £270 had been made to the account but after further checks said the charge had been then been refunded. Had me worried  for a while.
Thinking about it now I should of asked them why this transaction had not been authorised as it was an inconvenience to be refused. Don't know if this was a problem with GE Money or the Energyplusargos site. Seams, as it is happening to others on other sites it is a GE Money problem.Regards

We've been rumbled I'm afraid. The latest statement includes a letter which says:
You may have noticed that we have been giving you even more than we promised. This is because we made a mistake in calculating your cashback. You have now been given two cash back payments this year. Mistakenly we gave you 3% cash back on all your purchases. We now need to bring payments in line with your tems and conditions and to give you 3% cash back on your purchases of Food and Fuel only.
The good news is that we will not be taking back any money already paid to you in August and December - a bonus for you as we made the mistake.
For purchases of most Food and Fuel made with you Everyday Card from 18th December 2006 onwards, we will give you 3% cash back. All your other retail purchases will earn you cash back of 0.5%. .......
Oh well, it was good while it lasted - anybody know of any other high rate cashback cards???Stompa0 -
Got mine today as well Stompa. As you say it was good while it lasted. I just managed to get my new carpet & telly at the 3% so I have received over £100 cashback in the few months I have had the card so wont be long before I am down to 0.5% for all purchases.
Have been trying for months to get a card for my wife & every time I phone they say it is there but don`t know why it hasn`t been sent. As she does the shopping it would be better if she had a card but as it took 2 months to get my card I don`t hold out much hope of her ever getting hers.
Limit is £5000 p/annum so is it August before it goes back to 3% on food & fuel.0 -
Time to use a different card.Just got the letter too. Nice Christmas present from GE: £280. Thanks very much.0

It won't be much consolation, but when I needed another card for Mrs Stompa I just made one quick phone call and we received the card about 10 days later.Stompa0 -

. Time to go looking for another. Perhaps there will be some good offers in the new year?

Note that the letter also says:Important Information
Please note that we cannot identify food purchases that you make at certain department stores, which also sell food, such as Marks & Spencer (rather than M&S Simply Food) and Selfridges. We therefore cannot pay you Cash Back on these transactions so your terms and conditions are now varied to reflect this. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you
Might affect some people, especially at this time of year!
