Ear piercing later in life

I had mine done at a jewellers when 16 I think, I'm sure it did probably hurt but I can't remember
My daughter had hers done by the gun method and had both ears pierced at the same time which I thought a good idea as if it was sore she might not have gone on for the second one.
One tip I always remember my Mum giving me was to lick my finger and put it on my ear when changing ear-rings and the stem will slide into the hole quite easily. People will now probably scream thats unhygenic these days but you could try a wipe or damp, clean cloth0 -

But no. "... so I thought I might go to the Go Club" (it's a Japanese board game).
Haven't let him forget that, I can tell you!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Or you could use a little sliver of Vaseline on either side of your earlobe or the stem of the earring itself. I often go for months without wearing earrings and I never have any trouble getting them back in if I do that.
Had mine pierced for my sixteenth birthday at Harrods0 -
pavlovs_dog wrote:well as someone with 6 piercings in my ears, i feel qualified to comment on thispavlovs_dog wrote:now assuming the blue banana phenomena has reached bristol (hell, if swansea has one im sure bristol will
) i highly recommend them. i know that this is far from your normal shopping stomping ground, and some of the artefacts within may put hairs on your chest..lakeland it is not
Anyway, can't find them in our local Thomsons, although I'm not sure that covers the whole of Bristol.pavlovs_dog wrote:however, i feel you - like i did - would take great comfort from seeing everything...from the jewellery they are going to use, to the equipment...be put through the autoclave (the sterilising equipment). im sure that if they could make one big enough, they'd put the people who want to be pierced in there too:rotfl:
pavlovs_dog wrote:its up to you who you do eventually choose. word of mouth is a good way of finding a suitable piercer for you. however, if you take heed of no other advice, then remember this: stay well clear of claire's accessories. the horror stories aboout their piercing service are numerous.pavlovs_dog wrote:on the pain front..well, you've come through brain surgery, how hard can this be?pavlovs_dog wrote:you may find that if you leave your jewellery out overnight/ for prolonged periods, that your holes may start to close up.pavlovs_dog wrote:this has turned into a bit of a mammouth postpavlovs_dog wrote:on the downside, its yet another thing to coordinate when you go out :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Go for it! It doesn't hurt at all...just stings briefly (as others have already said). If you are concerned about it...could you take a paracetemol or something before you go, so pain-relief is already acting when you have it done?
weirdest parts of the whole ear-piercing experince for me was 1) having a small bald man who looked like a mole pierce them for me...it was so hard not to laugh, and 2) going to sleep in them the first night...feels really weird, but you soon get used to it
as for dangly earrings...they feel realllly heavy at first..so maybe just wear them for short times at first before you build up the strength in your earlobes :rotfl:
if you take your own earrings to be pierced with (as someone suggested, cant remember who, sorry!) make sure they have wide enough posts...then other earrings will fit easily...so maybe easiest to use the ones they suggest (and go somewhere that uses good quality ones)
and i echo the avoidance of claires accessories...avoid it like the plague!
good luck! One thing...that sets pulses racing...that gets hearts pounding...for which there is no substitute...only YOU can provide...blood.

Have had a recommendation from a colleague, one of the older ones, for a 'proper' body piercing place in Bristol.
So, do I ask DH what he thinks, or just go and do it and see how long it is before he notices?
I know what he'll want to know: will I still want him to nibble my ears! :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
If hubby is used to seeing you in earings he might not notice the difference straight away. Does he fancy a piercing too?
Yes, but not straight away.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

Does this mean you will be coming home with a neat tattoo on your bum as well, pink of course :rotfl:0 -
Hey Savvy sue! Had mine done at an advanced age too and soooo glad I did. Suggest you check the posts of the earrings used by wherever you choose to go - some have quite fine posts which is all very well until you see some nice new ones with fatter posts and have to try to push them through a not big enough hole.... get the picture?:rotfl: Better to go with the fattest ones first. Not really a great deal in it but could help as explained above. Also agree absolutely with advice to stay clear of Claires Accessories! My daughter is 'trained' by them and after a few days of being expected to get through a max number of clients so put minimum time into care and accuracy of position of piercing she left!! I think they gave her about 2 hours training! Very very short term pain for great gain. You go girl. :T0
