Well didn't you do a comparision on https://www.energyhelpline.com?) If based on your usage then you will save.
I put 36,000kwh (gas, yours) and 4500kwh (Elec, which is mine) and the cheapest option is strangely what I have just selected for myself. (I am in Yorkshire, so not sure how that would skew the Electricity prices).
[*]British Gas Click Online for Electricity and Equigas for Gas, the dual fuel on Equigas/Equipower would be £1057 were as the combined BG for Electric and Equigas for Gas comes out at £1005.
(You would save more if you signed up online at house.co.uk for BG at the moment as you get £50 for signing up online off your first bill which is better than the cashback deals you can get otherwise)
What kind of central heating/hot water system do you have that uses so much Gas, is it a big house, lots of people?
Cheers,
Mike
[*] British Gas Click Online process for me has been a painI still cannot access my account online for click energy, but the pain is hopefully worth it as their Electricity rates at the moment are so competative and so much cheaper than anyone else for me.

Whoever, Melbury, you still need to insulate.
Am in a 3 bed semi, with the back of the house open to the north. 13500 kwh Gas and 1502 kwh Electric.0 -

Insulate?, you should at least get some walls on the back of your house ;-)Joe

I am wondering exactly the same thing!
I think one thing that may deter a lot of people is their relatively low/indifferent service rating on the switch site and I had to contact then direct so you don't get the Switchsite bonus payout. I am now with them but am yet to have my first bill from them. Not particularly impressed with the changeover which seemed to take about two months to get final bills from BG and London Energy - during which very little seemed to be happening as mentioned previously.
Anyway it's done now and I expect lower and simpler to read bills!

Got my first bill from Equigas...simplicity itself, compared to Powergen Final bill which came this morning. Equigas 1.94p per kwh INCLUDING VAT and no Standing charge and Powergen 2.899 per kwh PLUS vat and PLUS Standing Charge
Quids in even when Equigas up their rates.0 -
melbury wrote:Did you have any problems switching to Equigas? I am very nervous about switching, have always been with BG, but am fed with their high prices!
My switching seems to have ran very smoothly so far.I first applied 24th April to move from BG to equigas.A couple of days later i got a card to say things were in progress, then another card about a fortnight later to say my change over wouldnt be far away.Today i received a welcome letter saying my gas will be transfered 1st June and to give a final meter reading.
British Gas sent me some free energy light bulbs this weekand a phone call wanting to know who i was changing with so they could give me a better deal,i said if you could give me a better deal you should have done it in the first place and i wouldnt have left you:p

That is what I thought. But in fact they give me a discount for paying by monthly direct debit. In my case, their service is administered by Southern Electric and has been fine since I switched to them nearly two years ago.0 -

I did do a comparison on energyhelpline and that is where I got the Ebico price from. Actually you were very close in your assumption - electricity usage is about 4400Kwh for the year and, as previously mentioned, gas is about 36,000Kwh per year. Does that seem really excessive? As I have said we don't have the heating on that much in the daytime due to being out at work. House is fairly large and detached, built about 16 years ago so does have roof insulation, but nothing like the 12 inches thick that seems to be recommended now.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

If not I think serious economies and energy saving + effective insulation needs to be implimentated !
That amount of KWh will run my house for 6 years !

Perhaps I didn't make it clear, it is 36,000Kwh - i.e. the figure you get when you do the complicated calculation as detailed on the gas bill. This is not the amount of units! So it probably isn't that excessive.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0
