    Is that right you don't have to sign up to a direct debit? Sounds really good and I would rather pay when the bill arrives. Do they charge you more for this facility than if on direct debit?

    Equigas operate one price for all so DD, Pay the bill, prepayment meters, whatever, all pay the same. However, watch out if considering CC payments because although Equigas charge the same for CC, Southern Electric add on a 1.5% handling fee for CC payments. :( Other Equigas agents may do something similar.

    I did get a DD form to fill in from Southern Elec (Equigas' agent for my area) but I just binned it and pay the bill via internet banking when it arrives.

    Ditto. Gas bill arrived today, paid it using internet banking an hour later after checking the meter readings were about right. No DD's for me.

    Went on the Ebico site earlier and even started filling in the application form, but had to stop as you need lots of details like account numbers and meter readings, which were not to hand. It certainly looks OK and I just can't get over their prices. As I said before, why isn't everybody flocking to join up with them?

    Once I give them the meter readings, is that it? Do they contact BG and SWEB to let them know that I have switched? Sorry to sound so dim, but I have never done this before and am still terrified!!!!

  • Yes, they follow up from there, you don't have to do anything else. They'll send you a card to confirm that the switch is in progress. In the meantime, you'll get a call from your old supplier to persuade you to stay with them...

    Because some people don't like CHANGE. Some people even have the same wife all the time.

    You need to understand their tarif structure. They are 'flat rate' so there is no standing charge or higher tiers but no discounts either. It pays most to join them if you are;
    1. A low user.
    2. A medium user on a prepay meter or a high % E7 user or just someone who wants to get a quarterly/understandable bills.

    High users will find them increasingly more expensive.

    I don't really understand, why is that? My annual usage is about 36,000Kw, would that be regarded as high usage?

    Thanks

    Are you running a Hotel ?

    If not I think serious economies and energy saving + effective insulation needs to be implimentated !

    That amount of KWh will run my house for 6 years !

    Well we only have the heating on in winter for 2 hours in the morning and about 5 hours in the evening - it's off all day while we are at work. We don't cook with gas either. I thought that was pretty average, couldn't really cut it down much more than that in the cold weather.

    So you don't think Ebico would be a good proposition as the gas usage is quite high?
