A cold breeze up the kilt for Hamish

You weren't complaining about his personal attacks (hint, press the abuse button). You were complaining about him posting at all.
I post here when I feel like it, usually between other things I'm doing. At the moment I'm trying to avoid completing my tax return. I've just got back from holiday too.
I don't think Hamish has a problem specifically, he posts cogent material which is well argued from a position which is no less extreme than those of Macaque or Dopester, just from the other side of the debate. Where the bears hide their own naked self interest behind a veneer of social responsibility ("what about the children!"), Hamish is quite clear about what drives him, but he does support what he says generally with well reasoned fact based arguments. In response, Hamish gets a barrage of personal abuse (which doesn't seem to phase him) for daring to suggest that it's better to make a profit from house prices going up than to make a profit from house prices going down.
This is a debating forum. You can come here with a position and debate it, and people who like to debate will tend to come here and do that. That's why I'm here, you'll have to decide for yourself what you want from the board, and if it's cosy chat and lots of mutual agreement this may not be the best place.
Oh come off it, julie.
Again, you were the first to cry 'rape' (literally) when a fellow poster made a disparaging comment at you, yet you claim that it's perfectly OK for Hamish to make personal, offensive comments about me. Hypocrisy of the highest order.
I find it hard to believe that you are intellectually unable to differentiate between welcoming Hamish's (or any other poster's) comments on the housing situation - which, if you'd bothered to read my previous post, I stated specifically that I do - and welcoming Hamish's personal slurs on me.
The former is relevant (even if very far from my own position); the latter is irrelevant, and contrary to the rules of the site.
There. Is that clear enough for even the dimmest of those who thought your post worthy of thanks to understand?

Gosh carol, I see you've been busy dancing around the subject and trying to distract from why your post made no sense.
Why don't you try again.....
Here's some reference material for you......;)HAMISH_MCTAVISH wrote: »
Recessions and mass unemployment cause downwards pressure on house prices. House price crashes do not happen in isolation, as the housing bears here are well aware. They have been sitting around rubbing their hands in glee every time someone posts another bad news story featuring bankruptcies, falling wages, unemployment, business failures, etc since this whole thing began. Drooling over such tales of human misery is nothing short of despicable.
Economic prosperity and higher employment, on the other hand, cause upwards pressure on house prices. Which is why the housing bulls on here post good news stories, and rightly point out all the signs of recovery and a return to better times ahead. That good news is, well, a good thing to celebrate should be blatantly obvious to all.....
Bulls know full well that rises in house prices cannot be sustained without economic recovery, rising employment, general prosperity, therefore that is what we cheer on.
Bears know full well that if we see economic recovery, rising employment, and general prosperity, house prices will rise substantially. So they cheer on misery instead. Utterly contemptible behaviour.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

continuous attacks on my professional ability .
I merely stated that for someone of your obvious ignorance to be a teacher is shocking.
I also don't believe that the sort of person who wishes for recession, unemployment and misery to happen to the society they live in and then cheers it on when it does should be allowed to influence young impressionable minds.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

And a quote from you is proof of what, precisely, Hamish?
BTW, I'm still waiting for an answer to my question, which you seem to be avoiding, for some strange reason.
Why EXACTLY do you post non-stop on here about house prices supposedly rising? Why are you up on a Saturday night, up every night - if, as you claim, all is fine and dandy in Hamish's happy housing world?

Yes, ISTL was wasting his time.
You are also wasting my time.
Go and re-read my post, you silly, rude little man.
oh dear - marbles being lost again... just because you don't agree with other peoples point of view... reading the above you still still can't see why people treat you the way that they do... tut tut.
ps. it's good to see that you've brough Reweird with you :TThis is a debating forum. You can come here with a position and debate it, and people who like to debate will tend to come here and do that. don't worry Julie - unless the poster fits in to Carol's "houses will drop 50%" viewpoint you're either stupid, rude or delusional
have a look at this desperate thread that she started a while ago to try to discredit more positive posters.Just a note to any would-be buyer out there: you may have noticed (a) that house prices have fallen solidly for the last 11 months (b) that annual house price falls now outstrip those at the worst point of the early 90's crash (c) that all financial experts are regularly predicting Armageddon in the world economy, as one bank after another collapses.
Yes there are some pretty peculiar headlines out there in Money Saving Expert's housing forum - along the line of 'Everything fine and dandy!', 'House prices set to soar' etc - posted by the same 1 or 2 individuals - londonlandlady, horseinhatman etc - who are probably the same individual troll posting under different names.
Before you come away with the false impression that us folks here on MSE know something that has escaped the rest of the world's financial experts/media, please be aware that certain very determined and busy trolls have been attempting to use the board as a propaganda platform.0 -

As a private teacher, my students pay me (cash) to be in my classes. I have a far longer waiting list than students I have time available to teach. The minds I influence are clearly voting with their pockets about whether or not they would like to enjoy this 'influence'.
Frankly, their views on the subject are of rather more interest to me than yours.
You, on the other hand, are a stupid little unemployed man who types nonsense non-stop because he clearly has no job. He also has no friends and no life, which is why he is on here at nearly midnight on a Saturday, posting about housing.
He doesn't even have any friends on this site because they all think he's a nutter.
Sorry to be so honest - but I'm just really bored of all your personl shtick. Enjoy a taste of your own medicine - but don't complain you don't like the taste. :eek:0 -

probably for the same reason that you posted non-stop about landlords and BTL for 18 months.0 -

You're not a positive poster, you're a rude little man.
And as for the dig at rewired - ooh, what a man, to attack a poster who you know full well never posts and therefore can't defend him/herself.
