Shaving Irritation

Has anyone got any suggestions for shaving irritation? Its my legs, they itch like crazy. I have tried shaving gel/foam, soap, conditioner and shampoo when shaving.

If when you shave you're pulling the razor up your leg against the direction of hair growth, try doing it the other way, pulling it down your leg with the hair growth.
And loads of moisturiser and a new blade!
  • i get this too every time i shave my legs. i usually use baby lotion on my legs afterwards and it stops the itching. also, i find when i put my jeans on after shaving my legs they itch even more so i usually put my pj bottoms back on for a while then put jeans on later when my legs have calmed down.

one question i have though....i always get dots all the way up my legs after shaving. anyone know how to get rid of this? ive saw women with gorgeous legs with no dots/rash at all.....always wondered if its because they maybe wax their legs?

I get this too about a day after shaving (presumably as the hair starts to grow again?) plenty of moisturiser seems to help. As for the dots, I think that's when the hair hasn't softened enough before shaving, heard it somewhere that you should let the hair get good and soaked before shaving them (I do mine at the end of my shower)

I used to find when I had very dry exzema on my legs I would get really irritated when shaving them, the only thing that worked was king of shaves shave serum stuff, pretty pricey so I tried to think of a way round it. Soaking for ages in the bath/ end of shower helped, and then I would shave using baby oil rather than gel/ soap etc, then when I got out would put more baby oil on. This was not quite as good as the king of shaves but very cheap and was fine. Thankfully my legs are better now so don't have this issue. Good luck, hope you find a solution.

ETA, One thing worth noting, maybe you are sensitive to one of the chemicals in the products you are using and the shaving is exacerbating it. Maybe try using a more natural product. My skin is so sensitive to anything so was always getting rashes, exzema etc until I gave up most products and stuck to natural products. hth.

Ask yourself if it's just in the colder months it happens - mine used to itch like crazy, but it stopped when I upped my vitamin D. The itchy legs would be first, then a patch in the middle of my back, followed by my forearms in the middle of winter.

I went through lots of potions, creams, wearing long sleeves to keep dirt off them at work, until eventually it clicked that it disappeared in summer. Following a bad bout of SAD I now take vitamin D one tablet a day, and my legs no longer itch.

I'm hoping this isn't classed as medical advice, just what happened to me to cure my poor legs.:D

I JUST THIS MINUTE came through from the bathroom to tell people about this, because it's amazing!

I just had a LUSH bath.

I used a wee bit of The Comforter bubble bar, then shaved, then scrubbed some Fairy Tale sugar scrub onto my legs.

Once I came out,I smoothed on some Strawberry Feels Forever.

I usually have red bumpy bits, stubble etcetc.

But tonight my legs are SO bloody smoothe and un-irritated,it's amazing!

    BTW - I don't work for Lush,I'm just addicted.

    You really should try this,though.

I think exfoliating is key with all hair removal, and if the irritation is really bad try aloe vera, I've got loads growing so it's easy to nip a bit off and rub the soothing gel on.

I completely second the more natural products, try just coconut oil on your skin, it's so smooooth afterwards :D

    All of them:p

I suffer with mad itchy legs.

I asked the chemist, he said soak the hairs well in a moisturising shave gel/cream, use hot water & moisturise afterwards.
I got some of that Avenno moisturiser, he said it was really good.
I tried that Swiss one thats very expensive, it wasn't much cop.
