It could well be - amazing that the dealership has no idea.... And I think they should be the ones sorting it out and footing the bill as it is still under warranty!

Any news OP? Have Ford Motor Co blown up that dealership yet???

Finally got a call from them yesterday (missed it so they left voicemail). Not sure what they were trying to say as it was so much waffle. Will call them again later.

Makes me glad I drive a Skoda!!!! (There's something a year ago I thought I'd never say).

Your last comment there should be enough to put FMC into gear to sort this dealership out and get one of their tech's on to the problem!

I'm guessing that they haven't as yet?

They've found the fault - maybe!
We got the car back yesterday (this is after going in to dealer on Saturday and speaking to a service rep who actually knew how to speak to people).

    All earths checked / tightened.
The car was 'Road Tested' (for this read 'used as delivery vehicle') with a Data Logger plugged in after diagnostics in workshop showed up nothing. From this they decided to update the ECU firmware and then further 'Road Tests'.

The car has not shown the fault at the dealer but I do think they spotted something but wont tell us exactly what. I have a copy of the Job Sheet but it doesn't show any tech data.

The car does seem to run better than before, just a shame that that they let themselves down again because when my OH picked car up it was filthy.

Anyway we'll see how car behaves now and I know that unless it goes wrong again it'll never see that dealer again (I wouldn't let them service a Tesco Value Toaster).

I'll definitely stick with my Skoda!!! (Superb 1.8T Comfort).
Actually, jokes aside, I really like the car!!!

I know what you mean, it was like - "Oh, we've got the car back", and I was all ready to kick off in the showroom again!

(visions of a blue ford focus screaming at 90mph sideways through the showroom window sprung to mind at some point, dont know why!)

Anyway, will have to settle for the 3 letters of complaint being sent to Ford, Inchcape HO and Site General Manager. Probably wont achieve anything bit i'll feel better for doing it.

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions, much appreciated.

I think you will hear from them, not sure what tho... If Ford's customer care service is still any good, I think you will hear something positive from them. They may even find out what the problem was and then we will all know!

Keep us informed - well, at least let me know!

I was able to visualise that blue Focus travelling sideways towards the dealership window...... I had several of those visions too but the Focus in mine was graphite grey - but I traded it in a couple of years ago and the visions went.... (I bought another Focus and am happy with it :D )

When (if) I hear anything I will post the response. If it turns out to be an issue that they know about it could be helpful for others.

Still like my Skoda!!! (be even better when remapped :D). It'll give some of the BMW drivers round here something to think about !!!!

hi mate at the garage i work at we had a focus cut out and found it was to a broke valve cant remeber what it was called on a aprentership but it had wax in it and a spring when the engine heated up it it ment to expand but if there fault they dont and cut out the engine also check the fuel line the fuel filter and the air filter and air filter pipes if the air filter pipe is blocked which happens easily it stops the engine breathing so cuts out
what your refuring to is a thermostat and no this wouldnt cause the engine to cut out. there are a number of thing that cause intermitant faults but a thermostat ain one of em. i'm experienced with cars but this would be almost impossible to diagnose without proper equipment to plug in to the ecu to access all of its features ford dealerships have the most basic equipment there is basicaly a reader that plugs in ecu to give them a code, then they look up in their data base to pin point it a ford techie with apropriate equipment will be able to access the ecu and tell you something isnt operating properly and that is fault press ford to get a techie involved as its a safety issue and theyve had their time in trying to problem solve it.

It was a Ford tech guy that diagnosed my problem in the end. They are there to help out the dealers - problem is, if the dealership won't call them in what do you do? I was lucky as we happen to know one, otherwise I doubt it would ever have been sorted by the any of the dealerships that I went to over a two year period! Mine was out of warranty by three days when I got it diagnosed. I paid for the part myself and it took five minutes to fit it!

I was stressed for two years with this blasted problem and these stupid dealerships were letting down the manufacturer big time and I told them so. To give them credit, they did respond to my letter and offered to pay for the part, trouble was, they needed the old part, and I had thrown it away just a couple of days before they phoned me... :o Couldn't fault Ford's customer care at all, just wish i had been wiser sooner and contacted them at least a year or two sooner!! I was dismissed by the dealerships as being a neurotic female, they didn't say it but their actions spoke louder!!

    Hi

I had same problem with my Focus 115, it would cut out while driving and the glowplug lights would start flashing.

Took it to Ford, couldn't find anything wrong. Took it to an independant garage and they found a problem with the Camshaft Sensor. Not had the problem since it was replaced.

    Hope this helps.
