Faulty Ford Focus

  • I work for a small independent (not Ford specialists) but we know a Ford tech guy and he was the one who found my problem within 5 minutes. He goes round the dealerships troubleshooting so to speak. I still have absolutely no idea why the dealerships didn't call on him or someone to sort out my car. I had two years of hassle.. :o And as I am female, they gave me the impression that they thought I was being neurotic....

Whereabouts are you in the UK, roughly?

that would have cost them money, palming you off is free.

Definitely gonna speak to Ford about tech getting involved.

Not close enough to me to get our guy involved .. :o

Keep us all informed. My fault turned out to be the air flow meter - I thought my gear box was on the way out! It was like it was changing into the wrong gear all the time, surging and holding back (its auto). Two years of blasted hassle, all for an £80 part and a diagnosis which took about 2 mins. And fitting the part took about 5 mins!!

    Good luck!

the trials and tribulations of auto boxes ehh! now if you could have selected your own gear then your fault would have been found much quicker than in 2 years. :p;):p

I had an intermittent problem with my 08 Focus TDi that took about 8 trips to the dealers to fix. This was a similar fault, all engine power cut . The ECU had no log of the problem and they couldn't replicate it.

The first dealer (I was away from home at the time) replaced the accelerator pedal (it's an electronic "drive by wire" system that doesn't use a cable). Eventually the fault was traced to a simple loose earth wire under the driver's side carpet.

    please do!

it wont take me 2 years to diagnose the problem though. and i certainly wont suspect the gear box. :rotfl:

Of course it wouldn't, you don't work for a dealership! I was just p1ssed that I had to pay in the end and my car was under warranty! And it wasn't the dealership that finally diagnosed it! At least I got the part at trade price...
