It doesn't matter what job you do...if the bosses treat you badly...I'm sure you would be complaining about it too!
I used to hate the way I was treated at work, so I left - I then qualified and wanted more money for the work I did, so again, I left.
It's supply and demand. You can say all you want about how you're treated but holding onto a job you're not happy in not only makes you a mug but also prevents others from taking the job. If people are unhappy at RM and leave, RM would have to do something about it - otherwise supply would not be enough for demand.
I have a friend who has been out of work for months - believe me, he would kill to be a postman, whatever it entails. Sinking deeper into debt every day is far worse than actually having to put some effort into your job, believe it or not!0 -

nice,is this you?0 -
LOL - Sorry but that made me giggle.
Most posties love their job. Love getting out and about and meeting the people (even the ones that abuse you, it's the one job where u get away with being cheeky to nasty customers
 )
As for putting effort into your work, every postie does, believe it or not. Extra effort for not extra pay as well, hence the strike...4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
There are huge problems with RM and its incredibly complex but all I can see the strikes doing is damaging RM and them losing more business so therefore more job loses.
The government seemed happy to bail out the banks. The mail service is basically a social service and should be supported. We pay less to send a basic letter than almost the rest of europe.
The government should be forcing both sides to go to Arbitration with ACAS. I know the union are willing but the management are not. The government were willing to step into other disputes so why not this one.
The government hate royal mail and want rid of it.
Hense they've allowed private comapnies to pick off the best and most profitible mail services (many gov depts don't use RM any more and would rather support DHL (german post office) (see traitors)).
So the plan is to let RM implode and them get the Germans to "rescue" it, net result profits end up in Germany and not UK.
Plus anyone who lives off the beaten track won't get any post as there's no money in delivering it to remote locations..."Love you Dave Brooker! x"

sorry it's notabout supply and demand at all...its about the right to be treated fairly. I sknow some posties are desperate to leave but there is not a lot out there...better to be in work than out.
Hmmm...why is it then that 80% of newstarters leave within a week...they can't cut the mustard...rm don't care....there's always another "mug" waiting in line to work for them, who then have their eye's opened the day they walk into the depo and realise it's not just about picking up some mail and walking!
If your friends wants to be a postman..I say to him/her great..go for it...but just be sure what you are letting yourself in for...DEBT FREE DATE: 05/02/2015!Those things in life that we find the hardest to do, are the things we are the most thankful we did.0 -
HalfPint, so bl00dy true. Many of the new starts don't stick it for long, or go sick within a few weeks of starting. We've got one who's been there for 3 weeks who's had 2 sicknesses already :rotfl: Maybe they are genuine, I dunno, but most people make an effort in a new job not to be sick.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

Just reading this on bbc news website.
Good on them I say.
Many small businesses will appreciate the Royal Mail taking this step to ensure some business continuity. When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0 -
