I wonder if the criminal fraternity have planned a raid on one of the big sorting offices with a plan to steal oblong shaped parcels?! There must be loads of the hamsters sitting in the sorting office overnight!
If I get mine at £14.99 then I don't feel so bad about paying £20.00 over the rrp for the four when I take into account petrol, parking, time spent looking and the general stress of tracking them down.
What is the most anyone here has paid for a hamster? They were going for up to £40.00 recently but I see from completed sales on ebay that the average price seems around £20 with many at £24.99 going unsold.
The most I've paid is £9.99 for mine - I can't believe the prices the furry little critter's have shot up to on ebay :eek:0 -

I went on a birthday shopping trip to Bluewater yesterday and checked John Lewis, Boots etc... but not a whisker
I'm still waiting on a call from my local Wilko to say that the Chunk I ordered last Saturday is ready for collection - he is still showing as despatched but still not arrived
Crossing my fingers as looks like my nephew won't hav a hamster if he doesn't arrive as not paying silly prices!
Call the store, i ordered my chunk from wilko online on sat and never got a call, so i called them thurs and low and behold he had been sat there since wednesday, definately worth the call, i think alot of people have experienced this with wilko orders delivered to the store0 -
The thing is WE drive the prices up. If everyone said they would only pay the rrp (plus postage where necessary) then ordinary people wouldn't buy them to sell on, which creates a a situation where they are now scarce to buy in regular shops and the high prices on ebay mean that we panic and buy at the silly prices.
It's very hard not to get sucked in. I am all for free enterprise and understand that people see an opportunity to make money. I myself have bought items from charity shops and then sold them for a profit on ebay.
However, having gone through the worry of not being able to buy something that I know my children will enjoy at christmas I personally wouldn't want to buy up stock to make a profit and am happy just to get my own.
When the telly tubbies came out I was in Hamleys with my son and everyone was given a ticket for a telly tubby so that people wouldn't go mad and buy too many. My son didnt want a telly tubby so we gave our ticket to a grandma who had queued for ages and she burst into tears as she had to get one for each grandchild and our ticket completed her set. You'd have thought I'd donated her one of my kidneys!
Feeling good that I'd made her happy was better than any monetary profit.Went to the paper shop - it had blown away.0 -

I know this is a daft question, but have you checked your details to make sure your phone number is on them as some have had the same thing and actually their hamsters were already waiting for them instore but the store couldn't contact them as they had no telephone number (or may be sometimes the store just doesn't have the telephone number for some reason - have you rang them to check). My hamster from them took about 4 or 5 days to arrive.:snow_laug Maximouse loves the build up to Christmas :santa2:0 -

Thanks - yes -I called in to the store Wednesday and he hadn't arrived so think I'll give them another call today just to see.;)
They've taken the money and my online status indicates he's been despatched but I've had this trouble with Wilko before and they've cancelled the order and refunded so I have everything crossed this time!!0 -

Last info I had was that www.Character-online.com get their stock in of balls, surfboards, and skateboards around 16 - 17/11 which they may put on their website on 18/11 and beds and carriers around 18/12 (free delivery on orders over £25 - no add ons expected though and I don't know if they'll have houses either). www.wilkinsonplus.com get their stock in and post their hamsters online (they've never listed the other bits that you can sometimes get in store - the good thing about when they do get stock in is that they have a deliver to store option hence no P&P - I posted the other day that Wilkinsons chain is getting just over 2000 hamsters in and they will be in the shops probably from 17/11 onwards. Then he told me that the warehouse was also expecting houses and playsets (surfboard, skateboard, ball) in this order so they might be in SOME branches of Wilkinsons as well depending on which shops have placed an order to stock these).
Also as Character are the importer / distributor for the UK, some online stores and normal shops will no doubt be getting a bit more stock in around the time character are listing their stuff if they have placed an order with them. I think these other online / normal shops 'may' also get a few of the houses and add ons, again if they had them in their original order.
Juat a heads up for anyone in ayrshire, wilkinsons have a new branch opening in irvine soon0 -
I paid £29 including p&p on ebay for Chunk. Feels a bit silly now seeing as my sister just got 4 no problem from the tesco website at rrp. But in my defence I did make the purchase after spending about 4 hours refreshing the character website!0

diddy, I am no saint! I have spied things in charity shops and given them a bit more than what they wanted because I have thought I could get more and then sold on ebay.
I just think that christmas is supposed to be a time of warmth and happiness and although it isn't really about what we get, when it comes to children we all want to see them happy and playing with something that gives them pleasure.
I think that some people are going to get caught out because if a shipment comes in then those that bought a few to sell on ebay at more than double the rrp will find themselves stuck with them.
Already the price on ebay has dropped for the hamsters although the accessories seem to be holding their own with high prices.Went to the paper shop - it had blown away.0
