  • tinawina, my remarks about greedy people selling on ebay have never been aimed at you. x

I have got on my high horse a few times and apologise if I've upset or annoyed anyone.

At the end of the day we choose to live our lives as we want to and perhaps I am too judgemental.

I don't have a problem with anyone selling spares or even if they picked up an extra item with a view to selling it's just that a red mist descends over my eyes when I read posts about people saying that someone put 16 hamster items in their basket.

Even taking into account buying for family and friends it doesn't warrant buying that many.
Went to the paper shop - it had blown away.

    Don't agree.

eBay accounts for about 1% of all sales and isn't a major influence.

Hi LIZDAV, just wondering where the 1% of all sales figure comes from? Surely it must be more than that this week than say, at the end of August for example?

If anyone gets their purchase on ebay cancelled then i would watch the seller and see if they relist the item and check how they post it....if its not recorded(as paypal stipulates) id bid again and pay what it ends and a ..............well you can guess the rest....if its not recorded it never got there!!!(paypal will refund you unless they have tracking number)and im honest!!!

how are sellers making a mockery out of ebay?

how the hell can you end a sentence like that with "I'm honest!!!"
you have just recommended people LIE and STEAL. That's amazingly honest. NOT. What a STUPID post. I do not recommend people do this. I have had this happen to me and it's the lowest of the low. I really pity you.

They say 700,000 approx have been sold. Ebay are selling approx 20,000 a week at present??? So a bit more than 1% I would think. Not picking a fight. Just my calculations.

I have 4 hamsters listed on ebay. I didn't buy them to sell, it has come about that I have ended up with surplus that I have tried to swap. I have helped MSE-ers by passing on surplus things at RRP and also swapping, to the point that all I really want now is a ball. I have tried swapping for a ball, but cannot get one. My hamsters are listed at 99p and it's up to the buyer what they bid them up to. Any profits beyond RRP and reasonable expenses, are to be donated to the Anthony Nolan Trust in memory of my Grandfather and some very close friends, all of whom I have lost to Leukaemia. I am not trying to make a quick buck. I had actually contemplated returning the hamsters to the stores involved (I have had friends and family on the look out you see!) but haven't done so because I know that ebayers are trawling the stores.
I went to tru this morning and queued up for Mr Squiggles because someone had promised me they would swap me a ball for Mr Squiggles. They went back on their word and have sold it on ebay. I am not gonna name and shame, they have their own conscience to live with - (if they have one!). So please, do not think bad of me. I have tried to do the best I can all around. If anyone has any doubts on my integrity, you can ask ella ella ella, obsessedwithhamsters and 2 others who I have helped/tried to help directly, whom I have for got their screen names, but "real" names start with J and D.
I just wanted to make that clear because I have openly said I have got hamsters on ebay. :o

I dont know Tinawina personally but she has helped me loads firstly by trading a hamster & carrier for a slide and then selling me the garage at RRP (obviously not on MSE) I also know that she has helped others with RRP stock and im very grateful to her :)

I think there will be a few of us listing our excess items on ebay but none of us are against that, its just the sellers who are buying trolley loads to sell on at 3 x the RRP that gets to us.

I knew it was too good to be true, i won num nums on a auction earlier for £8.50 now the seller has sent me this.

due to ebay problems at time of listing . Is it ok for me to refund you and relist item to get a realisic price for this item.If you have noticed the ebay search isnt working correctly and ebay only showing buy it now items not auctions.
    Please let me know asap

    can i do anything?

I would offer them the RRP, postage and their listing fee and final value fees (and are there fees for withdrawing from paypal? I can't remember). As long as the seller is not actually out of pocket then I don't see a problem. They might also have paid £3.95 postage to get their hammy in the first place I suppose.
    52% tight
  • For me....this all started with a newspaper article....didn't take long before I was hooked!
I have now managed to order a car (paid over the RRP but worth it after so much stress!!), and a house from Hooray this evening (I am so pleased!). I have two children and am going to give them a hamster each and these two items to share.
I just wanted to say thank you to the people on this site, I have my fingers crossed that the items I have managed to order are actually delivered and look forward to my childrens smiling faces on Christmas Day!
Good luck to everyone who still needs to find their toys....
  • Yep, around the end of September beginning of October time I think it was, they were buy 2 get the third free at Toys R Us. I am very lucky that my daughter asked for them back in September time so I managed to get what I wanted before all this madness really kicked off.

the manager at TRU in doncaster today told me that only 6 weeks ago, they had these on buy 1 get 1 free (or half price, can't remember which) and they couldn't get rid of the flamin things! they were apparently the store dust collectors! He can't understand where all the hype has come from, because the advertisin is apparently on cable/sky and online.....
