We already have a weekly menu plan thread so that people can post what they're cooking
I'll add this to keep ideas together.
Alternatively, if you'd like to post daily, the Daily Thread originated for just this sort of post; join the thread and you'll be made very welcome

I'm a bit late on this thread this week - not a problem except there's a lots of posts I want to reply to before I even I get on to my meal plan! Right, (deep breath):
champys - can I have your Indonesian beef recipe, please? It sounds lovely.
pretz - I really hope it's not sad to enjoy this thread, cos it's one of my favourites, too!
dronid - I know what you mean about feeling left out of slow cooker discussions - I don't have one at all, but the amount of enthusiasm for them on the OS board makes me wonder what I'm missing out on.;)
Barneysmom - boiled bacon.:drool: I was going to do roast chicken next weekend, but now I'm thinking it might be a bacon joint instead. Boiled bacon sandwiches are my absolute favouritests!
Eltee12 - I'm so glad to find another fan of wheat biscuits and hot milk. I've never met anyone else who greets the idea with anything other than 'yuk'! :rotfl:
Right (finally) my meal plan:
Tonight - crostini con funghi, prosciutto e formaggio (err.. mushrooms, ham and cheese on toast, but Italian style - it sounds better in Italian, I think.)
Saturday - kale, chorizo and cannelini bean broth, probably followed by some sort of plum-based pudding (as whoever packed my veg box this week got totally carried away with plums and I've got masses of them!)
Sunday - roast sausages with bacon and apple, with mash and kale
Monday - squash, chorizo and cannelini bean stew
Tuesday - smoked haddock fishcake (from the freezer) with some sort of lentil and chorizo-y accompaniment (I'll make it up as I go along!)
Wednesday - salt and pepper roast squash, egg fried rice and black bean sauce (the sauce is from a packet, as I've yet to find anywhere round Portsmouth that sells Chinese-style black beans)
Thursday - tortelloni and mozzarella pasta bake
Apologies for the epic post - I'll go away now!
Back after a very long break!0 -
Ok, so hopefully the week will be:
Sunday-roast shoulder or belly of pork (from local farm shop, so rare breed and FR yum), roast spuds, parsnips and steamed cavolo nero
Mon-roast pork soup noodles with pak choi
Tues-Sausages(or chicken thighs or drumsticks) with brocolli, cauli and potato cheesy bake
weds-fish and veg
thurs-lamb curry naan and rice
fri-chorizo and chickpea stew
Sat-hmm not sure, have a spaghetti squash that needs using-any ideas? Or some sort of stew type thing0 -
Thanks for joining everyone. Some great mealplans there guys!

champys - can I have your Indonesian beef recipe, please? It sounds lovely.
Certainly! Here goes.
Indonesian stewed beef
There are many different variations on this theme - although a lot of the time they involve a special type of nut (kemiri) which is difficult to find in the UK. Here is a simple version that does not have this ingredient. Works very well in the SC by the way.
Semur daging
1 onion
2 cloves garlic
1 tsp dried ginger
500g lean beef (for stewing)
2 tbsp sweet soy sauce (or ordinary, add some brown sugar)
3 tbsp tomato puree
Nutmeg
Seasoning
Finely chop the onion and crush the garlic. Mix onion and garlic with the dried ginger. Heat a little vegetable oil and fry this mixture for 2 mins. Cut the meat into small-ish cubes and add to the onion/garlic, stir-fry until meat is nicely browned. Add soy sauce (and a little brown sugar if using ordinary soy sauce) and enough water to just cover the meat. Bring to the boil, add the tomato puree, and nutmeg and seasoning to taste. Simmer slowly until the meat is tender.
(You can make this a spicier dish by adding some crushed chilli paste)
Serve with steamed white rice and coconut vegetables (sayur):
Simple recipe for Sayur
500 ml stock
500 g vegetables, mixed - e.g. cabbage, carrots, green beans, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts. You don’t need all of these, just cabbage is nice too!
1 onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 tsp galangal powder (omit if you can’t find this)
2 tsp crushed chilli paste (sambal)
1 tsp ground coriander
A pinch of turmeric
150 ml coconut milk or a piece of creamed coconut
Seasoning
Heat a little vegetable oil and fry onion, garlic and spices for a few minutes. Add the vegetables and stock and simmer until the vegetables are almost tender. Add coconut milk or creamed coconut and cook through for another few minutes.

Thanks, champys - that's on my meal plan for next week, I think.Back after a very long break!0

I see I'm not the only one with spaghetti squash to use!!! The order of these may change depending on who is cooking.
Saturday: Japanese night. HM sushi (one lot with raw tuna, another lot with smoked salmon), prawn nigiri, tempura (sweet potato, red pepper, asparagus and prawn), dipping sauce
Sunday: lamb pilaff, tomato & feta salad [hm vegeburger for DD]
Monday: if there's lamb pilaf left, I'll use it to make stuffed peppers. If there isn't, I'll use the spaghetti squash, not sure of the details yet.
Tuesday: grilled trout fillets with a miso glaze, garlic baby potatoes, green veg
Wednesday: meatballs in tomato sauce with hidden vegetables, spaghetti [meatballs cooked separately from sauce so daughter has spag & sauce]
Thursday: smoked haddock & prawn chowder, soda bread
Friday: roast chicken thighs with peppers & cherry tomatoes, potatoes & a green veg [daughter can have a poached egg]
I was going to make a plum frangipane tart today as well but the plums seem to have been eaten/used to make fruit salad.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000
