Surely they'll clamp down on this as people will exploit the system. Who knows.

    ?

i suppose time will tell, some people have been doing this since day one.

I just got in intime before they changed the guidelines, before you were allowed up to 3 accounts in own name (which i have got) but changed as of 1st december to 1 in sole name and 1 in joint name maximum, however as yet not to apply these changes to those who have been doing it before.

tbh my accounts all have usage any way as i use the piggybanking method ( http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/Budget-planning#piggybanking )for budgeting so have these 3 current accounts, plus 3 others (lloyds, nationwide and natwest) so my halifax accounts do have a use other than getting the £15 a month in rewards.

i understand how you feel, as it is definatly one of those things i knew earlier, i know i was lucky being there in time to get 3 but could have made a lot more out of it lol!

dont forget though, you can have 2 accounts as 1 in sole name and 1 in joint name, so if you have a partner, could get 1 each individually and 1 as a joint = £15 a month between the two of you.

People who know, what's the best way of opening a joint account? OH and I both have our own, but not a joint. He'd find it hard to get into the branch. Do we both stand at the end of a telephone and ring, or can it (preferably) be done online? Just wondering how they link up the two names.

If you apply online, the first screen contains the following:

Thanks Baldur. I didn't know if they'd have to 'know' we already each had our own accounts because they somehow had to be linked (I don't mean linked in a financial sense particularly, but to identify that Mr & Mrs Joe Bloggs now applying for a joint account were the same Joe Bloggs and Jane Bloggs who already had their own individual accounts, so were already on the system, had already produced their ID etc, which might hasten things along, or for it to be pre-approved or something like that?), or if this was irrelevant.

If you both already have accounts, the application form contains questions which are cross-checked against the information which they already hold about the applicant(s) so, presumably, this will identify one Joe/Jane Bloggs from any other(s).

I posted about this in post #8 here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2203107

My g/f has applied, but for some reason has been declined.

I wonder if this will put the stoppers on a joint account also.

I've a account in my name now, but i was hoping she could get one also.

i would get her to check her credit file just to make sure everything is ok, ie is she on the voting register, are all the accounts listed hers? are old no longer used cards marked as settled, is the payment history correct, as that could be a reason for her rejection.

if there are errors get them corrected and reapply then, if all ok, try for the joint account with your name first and hers as second and see what happens
