Thanks for that Ivy - just was wondering as he's been MIA for a few weeks now.

...... DH is a shirt and tie guy - lots of shirts to iron ...

Can DH help out by ironing his own shirts? I found out a while ago that our big boss (father of 6) irons his own shirt every morning.....much to the satisfaction of the women in the office! My OH does his own too, and he's a long-sleeved double-cuff chap!

Hey peeps, sorry I haven't been around, uni has been engulfing me for the past few days, and I've been trying to sort out our group presentation sections *sigh* I feel like someone's mum, but I did get a compliment for being so very very organised.

Have been doing lots of home cooking, made meatballs in a tomato sauce (I did cheat and get a tomato sauce from Sainsbury's, as I don't like tomatoes much and the made one was really cheap and not too tomatoey) Put some excess bacon and garlic in the meat balls with a little spice, and they tasted yummy in the sauce I thickened with a tin of beans and used two baking spuds that were yummy.

Tonight it's sausage and mash (sausages were on offer) and tomorrow I've got some chicken bits to spice up and cook with possibly home-made wedges.

    Hi all,

Long time no see... Mr ex-Maitane lost the broadband dongle in the move hence why I've had no new OS tips, recipes or general natter.

Hugs to all in need and to those who just fancy a hug! :D

I am in the process of clearing my kitchen cupboards, fridge and freezer to have a sort through and to make a list (drooool, I love lists) of everything we have.

I've been unemployed for a month now and we're so very skint, it's untrue but you know, we will survive  especially since the mad stockpiling instinct that I was once mocked for is looking like it will keep us fed for about a month before we actually have to go the supermarket again! :rotfl:

Anyhoos, have a nice evening youse all and I shall pop back soon (I hope)!

    Good evening,

Thanks for all of your kind thoughts. Thanks to the os thing, I am still managing to feed my small son from the contents of the freezer. He had lamb stew and mashed potato tonight. I assume I will have to cook again at some point, but it's very useful just now.

My husband's body was returned home to us today, and is now in the funeral home in our small town. The RFA padre has been to see me today. He brought back some of Paul's personal effects, and he also brought a ships crest for George when he is older, and a bobble hat that Paul wanted to buy for him but never got a chance. One of the men off the ship went back and got it for us. We also have a selection of photos of the ships crew at the memorial service that was held on board the ship for Paul.

On Friday George is going to choose a Burmese kitten. They won't be ready until the week after his birthday in November, but he understands that. I thought it would do him good to have a little friend that he can whisper his secrets to as he is growing up. I explained to the cat breeder what had happened and she agrees with me that a Burmese will be an excellent companion for a busy 5 year old. I know it will be expensive, but as it's his dad's last present to him, I wanted to make it a good one.

Take care all of you, and thanks again

Jayne, just to say that I have the greatest admiration for you and young George.
I cannot begin to imagine what you have gone through and what lies ahead.
God bless both of you, and I am sure that Paul is very proud of you both.

  • Cranky - I'm pleased that you are coping and that your OS ways are helping. The kitten idea sounds lovely too.

Well I've had a productive evening. I batch cooked spinach and potato curry, 3 portions are awaiting to go in freezer. My first ever homemade curry :D, came out quite well even if I do say so myself! I made stirfry with tofu for dinner as needed to use up fresh veg before I go away on sunday. Oh and also made up a salad for lunch at work tomorrow.

I also had 4 ripe bananas to use up so set about making the bero banana cake. However just as I'd weighed everything out and started combining stuff I realised that I'd hard boiled my last 2 eggs earlier in evening! Doh. So I searched on here and googled for eggless recipe. I adapted it to have egg cup of veg oil and egg cup of milk. It looked ok (like cake mix) and smells yummy in the oven, so fingers crossed it tastes ok! I'm on slimming world so will only keep a few slices and then take the rest to my nan tomorrow.
