OS Daily Thread - Wednesday 14 October

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 14th October. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning OS friends,

Jayne and George, still thinking of you both and sending love and light your way.
Janiebaby - glad the news was good
Nic1 - Good to have you back hon and glad you had such a nice (and energetic!) break.
Bitsy - Moan all you like, but better still... get some sleep young lady!! giggle.gif

My father in law has left me the measurements of the two tiers on the front bank so I can space out my lavender bushes when they get planted out. giggle.gif I shouldn't laugh but my idea of gardening differs from his as I tend to judge by eye and not worry if plants are a little too close or not..

Have written my list of garlic, onion, pepper and chilli seeds and some spring bulbs for next year and am ordering them from Sutton Seeds with the voucher I won. £25 seems like a lot of money to spend but it went suprisingly fast. Thought I better order them now before the postal strike holds everything up.

Washing is all up to date thanks to the dry, sunshiny days we have been having. I have some darning to do today which I find immensely satisfying. Lunch will be something ordinary like cheese and salad sandwiches to eat up all the bits and pieces of salad vegetables in the fridge. I want to do some baking but it will depend on how busy the home help is today. Weetabix cake and twinks with crystallized ginger are top of my list.
With love, light and ghug.gif for everyone who would like one.

Good morning MSD and all who follow.

Jayne and George - gentle thoughts and (((hugs))) to you both.

Well, here at Chez Mioliere, all is plaster and dust. Today was the day we were supposed to be taking down a ceiling but things went more slowly yesterday than intended, so it looks like we may start it tomorrow, and get everything organised for it today - dreading it all but just want to get it started so that we can get it finished asap! I shall not be in the room when the ceiling comes down, just in case there are any spiders! DH has vacuumed the space above to minimise them.

Anyway, hope everyone is well. I didn't come on here yesterday - at least, I don't think I did! Time seems to be blurring because there's a lot going on.

OS-wise, all the ironing is up to date at last, and the rest of the part of the house we are living in at the moment is reasonably tidy and organised, so things aren't too bad.

Dinner tonight will be pork chops with roast potatoes, cabbage, runner beans and gravy - just right for the cold weather we have. The days here seem to start off with a real thick fog, making everything cold, then the sun comes out and burns it off, then we have a few hours of warm sunny weather, then, as soon as the sun goes down, it's freezing cold again. Deciding what to wear is definitely a challenge. If you go out early in the morning, you need a thick coat and gloves but, round about 11am you look and feel completely overdressed!

Anyway, can't think of anything new to talk about - life here is just dust and DIY at the moment.

Hope you all have a good day.

    Morning.

Bit of turmoil here this week.... as the Mo in law died in hosp yesterday. I sort of expected it but I think it took the family by surprise. OH got a phone call at 3am and rushed off to the hospital with other family members following on. Later it was endless cups of tea and talking about it.
OH is the oldest of 12 kids so there is plenty of family.......

Anyway I will go in to work for a few hours today and then get home early later.

Not much else to report from this end.....

    Good morning

Am feeling tired already after a poor night's sleep full of weird dreams, so am trying two cups of coffee and an apple to make me feel bright and ready for work. BM has just finished and WM is on.

Janie - glad to hear the scan results were good.
N9eav - sorry to hear your news, (((hugs))) to you and OH.

    Have a good day everyone

Just popped in to say N9eav sorry to hear your news. Expected or not, it is still a very sad time.

Also, thoughts are still with Jayne and Little George. Not kept up with the thread over the past few days but trust you are coping and finding comfort from friends and family.

OS-wise, my year 4's made oatmeal sausages from 'We'll Eat Again' yesterday. After groans and moans of 'yuk' before they were cooked, I was surprised (and so were they!) that they declared them 'delicious and yummy'. Many asked for the recipe so I apologise to all the mums who will now have to cook them!! Last week's corned beef fritters went down a storm too! Bah - who need convenience foods.....

    Love to you all

    Morning all,

N9eav, sorry to hear about your mil, hugs to you and your wife xx

Jayne and George hugs to you, how are you ?

Kathy you weather seems very much like mine at the moment, but we do not have the fog, good luck with the ceiling.

Off to work today, so will have a quick tidy round this morning, rubbish and garden recycling need to go out. I will shove a wash on tonight, with this lovely weather we have been having I am on top of it, but need to do a small white wash.

Macaroni cheese tonight, which is made and in the fridge, I will do some sausages and brocoli with it.

I had a good game of scrabble last night with Zippy chic, I think she may be one to watch, she was very good :T

Halight hope you are ok, please let us know.

Diva, I meant to ask you, do you cook the peppers before freezing ?, I have a mini glut coming, on my plants. :T

    Have good days all xx

    Morning everyone :hello:

Up early as I have a 2 hour drive ahead to get my car to the garage. Then some window shopping ;)and a 2 hour drive home....
I'm taking the girlies and we will have a picnic that I'm about to make which we'll have in a park they like in the city.
Am trying to avoid the shops but may just pop into Ikea while I'm there.
Tea is leftover chilli so I can take my time driving back.
Just need to let out the hens, feed the birds, hang out the washing and swish the kitchen before we go.

    Morning Peeps

quite warm here this morning, we have had some rain in the night and i haven`t seen the weather forecast so i`m not sure if there will be more later but at least its not freezing.

its just starting to get light and my little black cat is sat on the windowsill looking out, she loves to do this first thing, i think that she is watching for any night time animals scurrying off.

The electricity has just switched over to the day rate but most things have finished what they were doing in time. I charged my mobile and the lappy on the E7 and also heated as tank of water and did the laundry. I shall pop in the shower later and the sausages in the remoska only need another few minutes. I`ve not needed the dishwasher or the breadmaker for the last few days as i`m not eating bread and there have only been small amounts of pots from myself and kitty, that will all change later as DH and the houndies are due home later. I can`t wait to see them :j

I`ll be at w*rk on a late shift for the next couple of days which is a nice break as i`ve just finished a stint of early mornings, i shall see how much hw i can get through before i leave :D

N9eav - Sorry to hear the bad news ((((HUGS)))) for your family

Cranky & George - Thinking of you.

Mioliere - We have a ceiling to take down soon and i must admit i`m really dreading it, i hate spiders

I`m off to check the sausages now so have a good day everyone.

    Morning everyone.

Well no better night's sleep for me (and H too). both kids woke at the same time - DD seemed really unsettled and was difficult to get back off to sleep. DS needed a wee (better than him wetting the bed) but then wants a cuddle/acts clingy when he has to go back. Normally I'd leave him to whinge a bit but he wakes DD so it's all a juggling act. So another couple of hours spent cuddling one then the other. Ended up in DS bed as he just wouldn't go off to sleep. He wouldn't go for a nap after nursery either but at least this morning he's sleeping in (for once - this doesn't normally happen).
Anyway shan't bore you anymore with my kids sleeping habits :rotfl:
Going to see a friend this morning and then usual nursery/[STRIKE]vegging eating biccies with a cuppa[/STRIKE] cleaning in the afternoon.
Tea tonight will be tuna and pepper fish cakes. Been meaning to make them since the start of the week so it will definately be tonights tea!

Haribo - thanks for the receipe :D
Diva - I would get some sleep but as you can see it's not turning out so well at the moment. I did manage to get to bed on time so that's something :T
N9eav - very sorry to hear about your MIL xx
mioliere - spiders <shudder> have me running a mile. No chance I'd be in the building when the ceiling comes down!

Anyone heard from Halight? He doesn't seem to post anymore......hope he's OK and the twins too.

Hugs to those that need them. Have a good day OS or not.

    Good morning everyone:wave:

Bread baking today. I'm going to make a batch of seedy grainy loaves and some soft rolls. I've decided to put the sour dough starter to sleep in the fridge for a bit. To be honest it is a bit of a palaver for one loaf and I'm not sure if I actually like it as much as my usual yeast bread. The family all like it though.

Breakfast was sour dough toast and jam.

Lunchboxes are a bit dull today -cheese sandwiches, choc and rasp muffins and apples and grapes.
I'm going to make a big pot of barley broth to last me for the rest of the week.

Supper will be pasta baked with leftover meat ragu and cheese sauce. Will construct it this afternoon ready to bake when me and dd return from swimming.
