I did it when mine were little, and never made any money to be honest - but I got discount on all the books I bought myself!

    Hi Nish50,

I am a Team Leader for Usborne. I love the books and have found that it has worked well for me. I started when my daughter was 4 months - she is now 7 and my son is nearly 4, and it is perfect work to fit around them :)

Come and have a chat on the Usborne thread that the others have posted above.

A question to ask of anyone setting up a party plan. OP, you are now a mother at home, how many Usbourne books have you bought for the children as you are the target market.

  • Just wondering how everyone on this thread is getting on? I've just signed up and am thinking of doing more christmas fairs/ contact schools routes rather than hosting parties? My main concern is the amazon/ cheap books elsewhere issue but was wondering how people found larger events for selling things?
Also after suggestions of good selling items as don't want to waste money on non sellers
    Thanks in advance

I wouldn't worry too much about our competition. I find that people are happy to buy our books at full price. Me and my team sell thousands of pounds of books each year! We can offer great advice, and also free books if people host a party! Why are you reluctant to do parties? In my experience, parties are fun and easy, and they are free to attend. There will be lots of christmas fairs to do, generally charging around £15 for a table. I have lots of faves..... Sticker Dolly Dressing, Snap Cards, Doodle Cards, Animal Hide and Seek, Stories for Little Boys/Girls, See Inside Range.... to name a few! Good luck in getting started!
  • Oh and in case anyone is reading this thread.... last few posts look a bit odd as the person I was replying to seems to have deleted all her posts..... Looks like I'm talking to myself :rotfl:
  • Hiya and that's for replying- I think I would struggle to do parties as I have a 2yr old and childcare for him is a major problem during the day not sure how people would feel holding parties at night- I might give it a go, I've got quite a few christmas fairs booked in already :T
Have just contacted my local school as well as would love to do a Community book thing for them! Need to get the lingo down-
I actually have my first toddler event next Thursday which I'm excited about just worried about the whole eBay/amazon questions-I think the books are gorgeous!!! Already picked out my sons stocking list so just fingers crossed all goes well xxxx
How does it work re ordering stock- do you order and pay for what you order, or do you pay a discounted price and top it up once the books have sold?
Sorry haven't had my welcome email yet- might ring them this morning :D
  • Most of the parties I do are in the evening, but if it's during the daytime, I've always taken my children with me when they weren't at school or nursery. People are usually fine about that, as they quite often have theirs there too.

When you place an order, you pay 76% of the total, therefore keeping 24% commission upfront. It will all make sense when you come to do it :)

Good luck with your first booking!
  • Hi everyone
I'm just waiting for my starter pack to come, had some really good ideas and good contacts at the school but found out I need to make 6x£100 orders before I can approach the school. I really wanted to do something for world book day next year but not sure if I can make all that money before then. How did everyone else get on before approaching schools? How long did it take to make the 6 orders?

Hello! I'm sure with all the madness of the christmas season that you'll be able to get 6 orders in over the next 2 or 3 months :) Concentrate on getting some parties booked in and some toddler group and fairs etc. There will be lots of local school fairs over the coming months!

Enjoy looking through your starter kit! It's like Christmas when it arrives ;)
