It's also in the DSA regulations too - it's not just an something Usborne do.

Taken from the Direct Selling Association Code of Business Conduct
    "RELATIONS BETWEEN MEMBERS
11.3 Members, sponsors and direct sellers shall not entice or solicit direct sellers from other members or other direct selling companies. "

But it does not say they cant work for another opportunity if they so desire
  • Hmmmm Im thinking of names for my facebook page but the ones i can think of are adaptions of well known children books. For example:

    The Very Hungry Little Bookworms
    The Book Tree
    Peek-A-Book
We're Going on a Book Hunt
The Tiger who came to Read
    My Pretty Little Books
    The Secret Garden of Books
    The Books in Pooh's Corner

I am starting to like Peek-A-Book. I was just wondering if you are allowed any of these.

    Thanks

  • Peek a book sounds good. Book hunt, hungry bookworm and pooh make it sound like books that Usborne don't sell!
  • Hi everyone, I am thinking about joining Usborne and wondered if someone could give me more info such as how much do extra catalogues/leaflets copst, do you have to pay for hostess rewards, what extra costs are involved on top of start up costs, what targets have to be met, minimum sales etc?

I would also be interested to hear how everyone gets on selling them and how much time (what hours of day in particular) you find it takes.

Any advice would be gratefully received before I pay my money over

  • Hi Craftingmad

There are no targets or minimum sales. Your only obligation is to place 1 order of at least £100 in your first 12 weeks. And with Christmas on it's way, you should have no problem achieving this at all.

Catalogues are £2 each, or 10 for £8 normally and you get four in your starter kit this month.

You pay £2 towards the hostess benefits, and postage is £5 if the order is under £100, or £3.50 if it's over.

At the moment it's only £30 to join too, as part of Usborne's 30th Birthday Celebrations, until the end of September.

I find that sometimes I spend less than an hour a day on Usborne, and somedays I'll spend 2 - 3 hours.
Of course if you have a party or an event, then you could be doing between 2 to 8 hours.

I find that most parents are familiar with Usborne Books, and know they are a high quality product.

I've never had a party and sold less than £100 - even when only 2 other people besides me and the hostess turned up!

Initially, you won't need anything besides your starter kit, as this includes a selection of books and stationery worth £140 and contains everything you need to start your Usborne Business. It's up to you if you want to build a bigger selection of books, and maybe some display equipment, but it's really not essential.

Some days I will spend much longer on Usborne than others. Some days I will just spend an hour, some days I will spend longer, depending on if I've got parties, events, or deliveries etc. Also the time of day varies depending on my 2 year old. If he wants to play with me in the morning, I do my Usborne work on an evening, if he's having an independent day and wants to play by himself, then I get on with my Usborne work. It really is that flexible.

    Hope this helps

  • Hey again!

Right im a bit confused lol! If i do an event that is quite far from my house and i am doing it on a customer order basis. on the order forms and working out the price. How do i do the postage? will usborne deliver the books straight to the customer or will they get delivered to me?

    Thanks

  • The books will get delivered to you direct from Usborne. If you're doing say a christmas fair at a school, then I would tell your customers that you will deliver the books back to the school office in 1 or 2 weeks time. Whenever is suitable for you to drop them back. I bag each customer's books up and mark it with their contact details (I buy plain white plastic bags from Costco which work out about a penny each). If it's a party you've done which is quite far, then you could always get the books delivered to the party host and let them know what everyone has ordered.

It won't be long before your books build up (with all the freebies you get along the way) and it will be easier for you to sell from stock to save on deliveries.

    Hope that helps!
