I thought it was just me who found the emails really confusing, and the whole explanation of the comp process left me bewildered !

I think one of them was in IT...and some people in IT I worked with are all over the place with normal stuff like life and simple projects...a little like this :-

I bet it all seems simple to them ...different view points

I.T. as in server side and programming...not office stuff. lol
After almost 20 years of this type of stuff, I seriously can't think of a single lady who likes that area and works in it ..apart from a couple of them running their own sites that they no longer need to be hands on like Lynda.com . I have a chat log of us all telling her that trying to look geeky with glasses on in her logo wouldn't impress anyone lol ...now I'm happy for the freebie courses and stuff she kindly sends us after all this time. She still only does her own area of interest and skill though graphics packages and Fireworks /Illustrator in which she is awesome.
Pop into Yahoo Web Design 1 chat and you could easily bump into quite a few uber oldschoolers who dome good. That's where quite a few have roots and mates still.

The person responsible for this site...requires hanging. Almost certainly a guy too ...gender doesn't matter though, it's all about who gives a damn about what they do and plans for variations of whatever they as developers allow to happen. Giving the prizes out in the first few days of a long comp..not great realy is it?

:) I've worked in IT for nearly 30 years - I was a programmer in my early years, been an IT trainer, analyst, database administrator, tester, currently a test team leader. Almost everyone I work with (and that's mainly blokes) would love an escape route out of IT but with the economy the way it is, that's just not going to happen.

I've never done anything with the web but I'm convinced I could do a much better job than they have with this site, the layout is just so confusing - I'm sure it wouldn't take much to tidy it up, make it clearer for people to understand and then maybe attract more advertisers.

And that would be much better for jeanmd and me, as we're both finalists for this so we would have more chance of winning something ;) (oh wait - I forgot, this one is jeanmd's :D)

    :rotfl:mine! :D

Offer to do it for them, then we're in with a real chance. I'm pretty carp at anything on the pc, but my typing speed has increased since I started comping on here. My DD is very good at doing webpages, but she doesn't see this working (pessimist, but then she's under 18 so can't enter.)

Ps. Instead of a rabbit hutch, can I have a chicken coop.

I still feel positive about this!

They have th same thought that you did, that they could produce a decent website (look at that graphic designer ad on there too...he can't do that well either)...the difference is probably that you would have some knowhow and organisation whereas they have made a website that a 10 year old could produce better. The fact that it doesn't use server side technology and they enter the details manually is hilarious in this day and age isn't it? Inviting errors to creep in all over the place.

The silly "our software doesn't like copy/paste" malarkey...their software is a premade package and doesn't know or care if it's copy/pasted as long as you don't also paste blank spaces into it ..which is the real problem they have. Crappy Js verification of the form.

There are two other house comps mentioned in this thread, both ones to pay an entry fee but so much better and appealing that people will pay. An inch extra care and this site could be rocking as it's free. Silly really.

I'd be checking any structural work they did on this gaff if you win it ..just in case the same attitude carries over into the real world as well as the site :rotfl:

It's going to be interesting seeing what happens at the end ...hopefully a great prize if not the actual house, it should be even if they got their figures way off.

MSEr in the house hopefully :T
