Why can't I peel my eggs?

To be honest I would probably run it under the tap now, especially if it was my only egg. But I did have a cat who sadly died about a year ago and used a litter tray, egg with remnants of pink cat litter just didn't appeal somehow. I've not done it recently but have juggled a few.:DWoofles you need to get out of that house. You are going insane:eek: - colinw
apologises for spelling mistakes - google toolbar and I have had a hissy fit and I've lost me spell checker.0 -
Apparently, if you soak an egg in vinegar it dissolves the shell.
You'd have to take it out after the shell dissolves but before the egg pickles though.
Unless you want pickled eggs that is0 -
I used to have trouble sometimes peeling a hardboiled egg. Recently I watched one of Jamie Oliver's shows (an old one cos he looked young!) and he said to roll them along the counter applying light pressure so that they middle cracks, and then just peel the shell off. It should come off in 3 or 4 bits.
It's worked for me every time I've tried it. Just had one now!

am bit puzzled here - you DIDNT have litter tray in kitchen surely?0 -
I never noticed this before I kept my own chickens - maybe it is to do with the freshness of the egg?
Sometimes the shell comes away - after much frustration - but leaves the white rubbery membrane thing!0 -
Just peeled 35 of the things ( Pickled Eggs ) and only took a chunk out of 2. Cracked them top and bottom, rolled along the middle and then used the side of my thumb to peel the shell.
Ran under the tap when they got a bit sticky0 -
I love this board, the people here can make any meal cheaper and tastier than any professional chef. They know more about cleaning a house than Kim and Agy. They can make anything you can buy, but make it cheaper and better.
Yet we can't peel a boiled egg :rotfl:0 -

Well yes actually I did.:eek::eek:
He was an elderly cat and towards the end of his life preferred to be an indoor cat and rather than stress him out making him go outside he had a litter tray.
I know it's a no no-no, but I'm sure we all do things we know we shouldn't. Anyway I'm still here to tell the tale.
On another note talking about vinegar, my mother told me my grandmother, would wipe down a piece of meat with vinegar if she thought a fly had been on it.Woofles you need to get out of that house. You are going insane:eek: - colinw

I recently read in a "tips to make life easier" book that you should crack the eggs before you put them in cold water as the water needs to get under the shell. I've done it a few times since and it seems to work.:A:A:A:A:A:A0
