what is your weekly standing charge

As a comparison samuelsmommy, I pay 12.14p per unit of electric used (+5% VAT), and 3.5p per kWH of gas used (+5% VAT). I do not pay any standing-charge. I am with Ebico for both electric and gas.
However, the prices charged by any supplier depend on the area of the country in which you live. I live in East Anglia (under the old Eastern Electric area).0 -
My, we are really down to semantics on standing charges.
Surely what Kim was saying is that Ebico's 'standing charge/additional charge/hidden charge is in the high electricity prices they charge.
Granted that if you use very low amounts of electricity, this charge is lower than the 'standing charges' used by all other utility firms.
For gas their unit price is far more competitive. However you don't get any discounts for Dual fuel, payment by Direct Debit, paperless billing etc.
All of us admire the ethos of Ebico so I am not criticising the company. However their tariffs are not attractive(as in money-saving) for many people.0 -
Ebico do not charge high amounts per unit used per se. As you can see, the price I pay for my electric is considerably less than those paid by samuelsmommy, standing-charge or no standing-charge.
I do not like paying by Direct Debit and I like to receive a proper paper bill each quarter. I realise you may be able to get some savings if you are happy with paying by DD and via paperless billing. I prefer to deal with a company that behaves relatively ethically and try to answer any queries you have properly when you phone them up.0 -
I would also say that often utility companies make it difficult to understand their prices. Many companies will put customers on to their most expensive basic tariff after a set period on a cheaper tariff. Ebico in contrast, offer one price for customers that do not have electric storage heaters and another price for customers on E7 (normally those that do have electric storage heaters). They do not operate many different prices.
Therefore, I would say that contrary to what Kim might say, Ebico's pricing structure is the most transparent and simple to understand out there. In addition, their standing-charge is always nothing! It is not Ebico's fault if the marketplace is set up so that Ebico's pricing structure is the exception, rather than the rule!0 -
That's the whole
point! It's not a fixed amount of money. ...
The OP's subject is "What is your weekly standing charge?" Ebico's tariff makes it very complicated to answer this question.
Read the definition provided of what a standing charge is and you have the answer.
Ebico do not have any standing charge.
They also do not have any 2 tier pricing that most other suppliers use who offer no standing charge tariffs.
Of course the business model of any successful business must at least cover the operating costs, but don't confuse those with charging customers a standing charge."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
