personally i wouldnt. my gaffer usually buys the 5 series new, he keeps it just until the warranty is about to expire and then trades it in for another new one, he loves them but the prices for repairs outwith warranty are extortionate. parts or labour. and they do need the repairs. they are nice but remember you are buying an expensive car, well it was when it was new but those parts still cost the same regardless of its age.

Would you say it would be the same for a 06 high mileage 3 series?

another manager had a 3 series 330d it disappeared at around 60k aswell...

a high mileage bmw has almost certainly been a company car doing mostly motorway miles. if you can live with that then fair enough.
i just feel that if you can afford to buy a car new then you can afford to run it,high end cars like this will develop high end problems sooner or later. maybe its just my pesimistic upbringing?

I won't be adding on a huge mileage anyway...probably around 8K a year or there abouts...but most certainly will be doing some research on maintenance costs before I hand over my heard earned on whichever car I choose to buy.

I like the 1 series, my dad had the 120d. You were put off the 3 series by size though, so i should probably point out that the 1 series is actually wider than a 3 series (well the e46 one anyway) and on driving the 2 of them on narrow roads, the 1 feels bigger!
Surely with this talk about newish beemers someone is going to start talking about the runflat tyres?...
  • I've got a 1 series, had it about 6 months and absolutely love it. The handling is amazing. Take a look at www.babybmw.net

Can that be resolved with 4 wheel laser tracking or is there more to it?

yes, the factory tolerances were done by eye from what I have seen. A 4 wheel alignment will sort it stop you wearing out the inside of your rear tyres, which are an odd size and about £90+ a corner unless you fancy your chances with some Far East budget ones.
