Dont get me wrong I like the burst of power but it doesn't last long enough for me, its all there then its gone, i like to be able to push it in all gears. I had the Astra 1.9 cdti(150) for 6 months i tbh i didnt like it, it had power and my god it pulled , but i was only getting 35mpg when i was booting it.
My mum is the same with her diesel (2L vdci ?? 150bhp thing) shes always going on about it being so great and powerful, but when Ive driven it Ive not been overally thrilled, I suppose it depends on what you drive everyday. The fasted diesel ive come up against was a big white mercedes van, not sure what it was, but man that thing shifted:rotfl:0 -
Yeah, modern vans are quicker than they used to be! I guess they're pretty low geared to help with the weight they need to pull.
The only diesel I had was the 335 and it was immense. It pulled and pulled but it's no more than the old version RS4 I had.
I just think that if you buy diesel as a performence car, there's always a compromise between economy and performence. True performence cars will always be petrol. Even the diesel R8 has only been done because audi can and it's quirky.0 -

i remember strathclyde police had a merc sprinter van, they used it on the m74 a lot. i used to see it involved in many high speed journeys, i was sitting at 85 one day in my van and all of a sudden this thing came from nowhere hammering past me,easily doing 140!...work permit granted!0 -
What are people's general thoughts on the BMW 1 series?"He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,

they arent too bad, ive got a transit 110. folk hate to see me pass them, they always do that speeding up thing as your overtaking.
or they think i'll just keep going and get past the (what i think will be slow) van and then cut in right in front of him, wrong! its great fun.
gearing isnt too bad eitherpulls nicely and tops out at 110 mph (i think)
but i would always choose the fast petrol over the diesel for a car any day....work permit granted!0 -
None of the cars you mentioned will do a real world 0-60 in under 7 seconds.
The Type R will, and so will the GSi http://forum.astraownersnetwork.co.uk plenty of real 6.5s on proper timed track days
That's not real world 0-60.
On a proper road, 0-60 never happens unless you're racing.
You're unlikely to dump the clutch like you would on a track day.
Most 0-60 times are unachievable as they're performed in optimum conditions by a decent driver who doesn't own the car so has no mechanical sympathy.0 -

Civic Type R 2001-06 era- bulletproof, but if you cane it, check the oil level fortnightly as running in VTEC uses oil. 30mpg easily achievable and lovely and relaxed on the motorway cruising in 6th gear. 2004 on facelift models have a lighter flywheel for more responsive driving. Watch for dodgy steering racks, worn synchro in 2nd gear and badly set up suspension geometry from factory. Oh and accident damage and repaired Cat D's. Black is the fastest colour aswell. Spec is spartan, but the ride and handling is akin to a 205 GTI, ie go kart like, but don't take your foot off the throttle mid corner unless you want to see where you have just been.0

Can that be resolved with 4 wheel laser tracking or is there more to it?"He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,
