The reason i do the 6am start is for security, my other job is SE so no security as such, i can be buisy one min and then dead as and like knowing what income we have as guaranteed..it is aswell a very easy job and very flexible and good pay but yes is making me tired..sorry sounds like im saying no to any suggestion but with a huge loss of jobs at the mo and very quiet on the childcare front i'm certainly not jacking that in! Our relationship is fine we just have this odd niggle with each other at times and was just wondering what others do.
Thanks
I re read my post and it comes across abit harsh (!:o). What i ment was, could you not solve the problem by working more in the day so you could knock the early start on the head. I wasn't implying that your relationship was in trouble persay."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0 -
OK, well I'm disabled, so our "together" activities depend very much on how my health is at the time, but here's a list of possibles for us:
- TV - we record things we want to see and keep them for when I'm particularly poorly (also means we can fast-forward through the adverts;))
- PlayStation 2 games - we have loads that can be played by 2 people at once, co-operatively.
- PC games - we both sit at the PC and take it in turns to operate the game, and the non-operative one yells instructions. Usually accompanied by a tankard of cider.
- Crosswords.
- Board games, such as Talisman, Scrabble, Odin's Ravens.
- Paint pewter figures for games like Dungeons and Dragons.
- Read books - we read the same one, and read it out loud to each other, taking turns to be the reader (this is usually last thing at night, in bed).
- If he wants to catch up with the newspaper and I don't, I sit with him companionably and do some cross stitch.
- Read the newspaper together - we spread it out in front of us on the coffee table.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

Hi thanks, no i know you didn't mean anything horrid by it! I still feel if i give up my secure morning job i will lose all my minded kids..this has happened before and we have been fine as i still have the employed job to fall back on. My minding is great at the mo and i could easily afford to give it up BUT i would lose them i know i would as it's just my luck! I would love to have the security of having more kids in the day but unfortunatly it isn't that easy!0 -
life's a bit different in our house. my husband (42) is a lorry driver and is away from home, sleeping in the lorry mon-thurs nights inclusive. Me, i'm a full time primary teacher (33) and we have a dd (2 and half).
On monday to thurs eves, dd goes to bed at 7pm and I;ll do an hour or so of prep work for school (more at report writing times, christmas activities etc) then i'll pop on internet and do the housework from the morning when we rushed out at 7.30am!! so in the week i can do what i like as long as it's in the house and quiet as dd is a light sleeper!
on friday nights, OH comes home, showers, we eat tea that i've cooked and thats it. We lounge by the tv and catch up on events that week. He'll check his emails and stuff.
On saturday eve, we have pre-planned sex (LOL!!) and i watch strictly and casualty while he goes to the other room to listen to music and read. Later on we'll watch a film together.
On sunday nights he goes to bed aound same time as daugther (as has v v early sta rt) and i'm on my own again!
It's always been like this so it's not too alien to me. Before we had DD we would go to the cin ema, meals or to the pub/pub quiz but now we stay in.0 -
I think your OH is being grossly unfair. My husband is up at 5.30AM, drives to work (20 miles each way) and then does a 10 hour day (manual work, on his feet all day) with only one 45 minutes break. This means he is knackered in the evenings and I accept that.
I cook the evening meal while he relaxes, either watching TV or playing on the PS3, then we usually watch TV till 10pm when we both go to bed.
There has to be some give and take - I assume your OH does the cooking and cleaning as he has so much free time?
Gotta agree, I know its old fashioned, but I work 36 hours PW & DH works more (a fair bit more).
Isn't that the way it should be?
If you have family & home duties too?0 -
Hi saryclary hope i have the right name! my job or should i say jobs are all over the place..i have a morning job for 2 hours 6-8am poss more depends on whether holidays as do more then..i childmind but only do till 11 or 12 or 3 after the mindee has gonei have the rest of the day (decorating!) till 3pm then i am picking up as do school runs..like now i worked till 12 today then had till 3 off went to school did the school runs and am out again at 4.45pm to start again as after school club lot!..i also work saturdays in another job.
On average i work 47 hours, can be less if the kids are ill and i then dont work or if it is holidays i actually work more! none of the housework was included as 'working' as such! I love that my job is so varied as such but also they are all over the place too!
Hope that makes a bit more sense!
I'm lost
You do 2 hours in the early morning & then childmind till 11, 12 or 3 & you notch up 47 hours PW?
Well if you take off 10 hours for your 2 hour job.
Thats 37 hours of childminding.
Thats 7.4 hours per day, every day.
Well if they leave at 11 or 12 or 3, how can you have had them for 7.4 hours?

Even if they left at the latest time of 3pm, they would have had to have to there at 7.30, but you say your other job is 6-8am

Can't believe i woked this out just to try and justify myself!
Monday: 7.5 hours
Tuesday: 5.5 hours
Wednesday: 10.5
Thursday: 10.5 hours
Friday: 10.5 hours
Saturday: 3 hours
TOTAL: 47.5 hours ( a tiny bit less than i worked out oops!)
This is actually lower than it used to be as used to do another 3 hours ontop of that lot making it over 50 but have cut part of one job down..the days vary and i work bits all over the place..i.e school run pick ups and odd hours of the day! Hope that makes sense..if you want more of a breakdown please let me know!0 -

Not good enough.
Can you tell us what you had for lunch that particular Wednesday and whether or not you had to fill up on fuel anytime during that week.
