  • <<My friend who had a lump removed has been given three choices as to her next therapy and the Dr appears to have just told her about them and sent her away to decide. He has offered 1. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy with tamoxifen or 2. Radiotherapy and tamoxifen, or 3. An option that nobody else she has spoken to has been offered; and that is to have radiotherapy, tamoxifen and for two years a drug that turns off your ovaries and brings on menopause. I spent a couple of hours yesterday googling websites and forums for survivors for information to try and send her and my head is still spinning with it.>>

After my mastectomy I had chemo followed by five weeks radio therapy followed by a drug called Arimidex which my oncologist reccomended as it treats not only your breast area but is good for killing off any stray cells that might want to move elsewhere in your body.My DDs ma-in-law had a lumpectomy followed by radiotherapy, and thenTamoxifen for a year, then it was changed to Arimidex as the Tamoxifen gave her various side effects. She is 73 and will, come the end of this month hopefully be discharged as in full remission, as her five years will be up and she will be pronounced cured:j
I have another 3 and a half years to go before I get the all clear, but although I get a bit tired at times and I do have a problem with lymphodema and have to wear a sleeve on my right arm to keep the swelling in check I feel fine and very confident with all of my treatment.Having the chemo and radio-therapy increased my life expectancy from 40% to 85% after 10 years, so I took what I considered to be the best option. It is sometimes difficult to think straight when confronted with all the options but when asked what I wanted to do I told my surgeon 'I have seven grandchildren I want to live long enough to see them all grown up and hopefully settled down' She said bless her, 'I'll do my best for you' and she has.

Today has turned out quite bright and I have just put the washing on the line for a good blow,I am making the most of the weather whilst I can as I'm sure it won't be long before the grey dark days of winter will be here. Did the school run this morning for DD as she started her new job today.Just off now to have a coffee and a hob nob, HM off course.Have a great Monday everyone and <<hugs>> for those who are having a bad time, tomorrow is another day and it will seem better for you all I hope
    Cheers JackieO xx

    Morning all!

Wish I could say that I've been doing lots of os stuff this morn, but that'd be a big fat fib! I've taken the dog on a long walk though, and there are still some blackberries, so will send kids out for them later I think - they'd have only gone mushy in my pocket!

Yesterday I made Hugh's bacon chops, well I chopped up the pork and put it in to marinade, just given it a turn and a poke and prod, think will swap menu plans around and feed it to the kids and oh on Thursday. Also roasted some chicken in the moski for the kids to have when they got in, but got stuck in traffic on the M4 so only dd3 was hungry, others ate at the services. So need to decide what to do with that and freeze it possibly.

All hoovering and cleaning was done yesterday, so just a bit of washing to sort out today, and need to pull out wm as think a pipe might be loose, little puddle on floor is my clue! Will also check the filter though, as forgot once and it was so clogged up that it was causing a leak.

Need to go and collect my hairdryer from oh and pick up some cat litter and find out what's happened to my dog food order - will do the first two in a bit and phone about the last, might need to pick some up if they can't make it today, thought I had a spare bag in garage, but it seems to have gone awol.

Lunch for kids: gammon and mustard sarnies, apples/satsumas, cheese chunks and mincemeat braid (though dd3 nearly had kittens thinking it had meat in at first - not sure she was quite awake!)

Dinner for all: pizza, extra veg for me using up some of the roast veggies, and with Hugh's chorizo fried off for the kids. Dessert will be passionfruit ice cream if I remember to bung the machine on when I get in (passionfruits were reduced to 6p a pack of two in Asda when I popped in!)

Have a good day all, will try to catch up later xx

Clare - just seen your post above mine, it is wrong that he should be allowed out like that xx

Jayne and George - you are in my thoughts and prayers still xx

Hi folks.:hello: Greetings to all and good wishes to these in need.

Sorry I've not been posting much but the home improvements have been dominating the scene here chez Val. I decided that finally, FINALLY the two lounge sofas and armchair weren't going to last another year so went off to IKEA to have a reccie. Ulp. The thought of spending the best part of £1200 on a bed settee, a sofa and one armchair made me feel a bit wobbly so I went off to investigate the second hand market. What did I find in my favourite local charity warehouse? A two seater Ikea sofa, gorgeous blue tartan upholstery, in practically new condition, £75. Great! Even better, I went onto Ebay and found the two matching armchairs being sold by a chap near Hubby's work, bid and got them for £37 the pair. At that price as long as they're half decent (the covers come off to wash) they'll still be better than what I've got and I can take my time looking for a bed settee. And so far, I've spent £112, which is a vast improvement on £1200!

So chap from charity warehouse will deliver the new sofa on Friday and at the same time take my two old sofas and armchair to the tip for me, for a donation. I've also decided to have a bit of a furniture clear out because we seem to have accumulated quite a few extras over the last few years, courtesy of deceased relatives, and the house is jam packed. So I'm getting rid of a pine dresser (got another one), two sets of bookshelves, a wardrobe, a telly unit and a coffee table.

All I have to do now is find homes/throw out the stuff that was in the above items. So that's my week booked up, sigh.

Roast pork for tea tonight, leftover from yesterday's roast. Spuds, yorkies, cabbage and sweetcorn to go with it. And I fancy making pineapple upside down cake for pud. Well, I'm expending a lot of calories with all this tidying and sorting out!

    Morning :hello:

    Nice and sunny here today
Washings out, everything tidy, vac'd and dusted,
Lunch is the last of the salad and sarnies
No idea about Dinner tonight though...will take it as it comes

OH gone to the tip, he had a good clear out in the garage yesterday. The old chap over the road saw him and asked if he would take some stuff for him as well. So off he went this AM with a fully loaded car.
Everything was past redemption I might add, I gave it all the once over, he is'nt as OS as me so I have to keep an eye on him  :rotfl::rotfl:

Thank-you for your kind comments about my little penguins I really enjoy knitting toys.

Diva - what a difficult decision for your friend, I hope you manage to find lots of info for her. Glad you liked my little chaps, a couple of LO's somewhere will love them.

Kazzaw - I froze some peppers for the first time a couple of weeks ago and they came out a bit soft so I put them all in a roasting tin with onions, parsnips, leftover sliced pots and green beans, ground salt and pepper over them and then drizzled oil on them, put them in the oven and they were delish mmmm

Pen-Pin - hope all goes well at the hospital for you today

thriftlady - its well known cake is a great healer :rotfl:

Hester - good luck for today

Curlytop - thinking of you and your friend today

stefe - glad the scan was ok

BargainBird - Again!!! I can never understand why it takes so long to settle things, it makes it so hard for the bereaved to come to terms with.

    valk-scot - well done with the furniture....what a great bargains :T

(((hugs))) for CRANKY and George and anyone else in need x

Off to the chemist to hand in my prescription, then Morries for the shopping.

  • Wow Valk Scot - that's a real bargain isn't it? I'd always been a charity shop snob but recently I've had some real bargains.

MSD - I think the injection you mean is Zoladex - it seems to shut down your ovaries while you're having the injections so that they can restart after chemo / hormone tablets have finished. I've recently been diagnosed and start my chemo within the next 4 weeks. It isn't something I'm looking forward to but I'm prepared to do everything and anything I can to make sure I get better. Reading things online can often lead you to stumble across things you don't want to read but If you go the the Breast Cancer Care website and find their publications sections you can order copies of lots of different booklets to be sent to you or your friend about all different aspects of Breast Cancer. You can then dip into them as and when you want to and can stash them away wen things get too much.

Floss - My hats arrived today and are lovely - just perfect. Thankyou so much.

My day started quite early today as MrS is on a 6am shift. That means a 5am start so although I did go back to sleep for an hour and a half it is still earlier than I'm used to. I do need to make a conscious effort to get out of bed at a reasonable hour though if I'm going back to work. I can see me falling asleep at my desk otherwise.

So, I've cleaned out the fires and re-lit them and top to bottomed the dining room. I've moved some furniture around in there so I'm sure MrS will moan when he gets in. Not that there is any reason to moan he just always does when I move things. I've put the sofa in a better location as it'll mean that the light is on it from the window. It's such a dark room and doesn't get much sun but now we have a fire in there I want to use it a little more so I need to make it a little more cosy.

I've cleaned the bathroom and tidied around so all I need to do now is hoover through, do some washing and take all the clutter that was lurking around in it's rightful place. I'm amazed by how much rubbish we leave all over the place. There are only two of us but our house is rarely tidy.

I also need to walk the mutt and pop to the Post Office with some eBay items. Goodness knows how I had time for work - I shall be shattered again once I go back.

    Afternoon all,

slept late as I was very tired, have put one wash on line and another in machine, and cleaned up the mess that Kerry made on the kitchen floor with a banana, emptied compost caddy and paid my bills for the month, so feeling rather good, have still to clear and scour the living room which will be as much housework as I will get done to-day.

Dinner later will be bream that my brother bought but didn't cook, nice treat that we usually only have in Italy, not sure what veggies to use yet, maybe just a salad and chips, might even go Italian and have pasta first.

DGS2's bedroom is nearly cleared, his bunks are gone to his new house and I felt very lonely looking at empty room, they move on Friday so have them for a few days, but it will be the first time that OH and I have been on our own since DD1 was born in December 1970...not sure that we are as ready to change as we were then so might take a while to get used to it.

Hugs to Cranky and George and anyone else in need or want. Back later I'm sure

Hard physical labour, you know! There's a reason all our ancestors stayed skinny while eating suet dumplings and such every day!
