OS Daily Thread - Monday 12th October

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Monday 12th October. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning OS friends,

Jayne and George, still thinking of you both and sending love and light your way, I am so glad you have great friends supporting you.
welcome2.gifStokegirl - Great to have you with us and well done on all that batch cooking, I am really impressed. (and drooling over the idea of microwave fudge!)
Hester - Good luck for today hon, sending you lots of positive vibes.
Noahs - glad you had a good holiday sounds like you all enjoyed it, and you certainly needed it
Pippa - Wow, they are so good! You are very clever. The little hats look adorable and I loved the cute lil hedgehog too.
Taplady - I love the Last Choir Standing CD, I play it often.
Yesterday was a lovely day - more sunshine here though didn't manage to get into the garden. Really enjoyed the belly pork - we just roasted it in the oven and the crackling was really delicious. We score it and then pour a kettle-full of boiling water over it which seems to help it crisp.
Today will be pitta pockets for lunch with lots of roasted peppers as I have orange, green AND red that I picked the other day, and then either chorizo pork a la HFW on Thriftladys recommendation or sausage casserole, I haven't quite made up my mind.
My friend who had a lump removed has been given three choices as to her next therapy and the Dr appears to have just told her about them and sent her away to decide. He has offered 1. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy with tamoxifen or 2. Radiotherapy and tamoxifen, or 3. An option that nobody else she has spoken to has been offered; and that is to have radiotherapy, tamoxifen and for two years a drug that turns off your ovaries and brings on menopause. I spent a couple of hours yesterday googling websites and forums for survivors for information to try and send her and my head is still spinning with it.
Anyway, I hope your week starts gently.. with love, light and ghug.gif for everyone who would like one.

  • Morning MSD & all who follow.
I'm up & have had breakfast, hubby's on lates today so he'll cook his own.
I shall be glad when today is over, but I know it won't be the end, I will suffer retaliation, with a vengance.
I've made corned beef & chutney sandwiches for my lunch, not sure whats for tea as it will just be me, so I'll probably have egg on toast, every night, lol.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning peeps

quite warm again today so long may it last. I put the washing machine on this morning before i left the house so it would be nice to be able to hang it all on the line, all the doggie bed covers are in there so they will take a bit of drying. This afternoon i shall strip our bed and give the bedroom a good clean so there will be plenty of washing for tomorrow too.

Emptied the slowcooker this morning - the lamb balti smelt delicious and is now all portioned up and in the fridge so that will be my tea later, the sc is soaking ready for a scrub later.

Bitsy - Glad to hear that DD hasn`t broken anything, you really mustn`t blame yourself ((((HUGS))) for both of you.

Hester - Good luck for today - all your friends are behind you sending you virtual support.

    Stokegirl - Welcome :hello:

Pippa - Your penguins are lovely!

    Morning everyone.
Been up since 5am. DD woke hungry and cold and wouldn't go back off to sleep. Due to the cast she won't fit into her sleepsuits so she was in a short sleeved vest and grobag last night. Getting her dressed was a mare this morning - shes cried each time I touched her arm :( Shes not a happy bunny at all today :(

Got to pop to the bank and pay some money in - H sold his dad's bicycle on ebay and he's letting us keep the money :) Other than that I can't see me getting much else done with DD up and around.
Tea tonight should have been tuna and pepper fish cakes but I didn't each the chilli I made yesterday so will have that instead. Made it a bit too spicy so the kids won't be having any :o

Hester - good luck for today xx

Have a good day OS or not. Hugs to those that need them.

Morning. Cool start to the day. I have work at 1pm and so can take it easy a bit today. I have a meeting at school at 8.30 and then need to tidy my office.

Everyone is a bit depressed in the house, jobs, unwell mo in law etc.... Everyone needs a lift.

Made American beans and home made bread for dinner yesterday, a bit different but it was all eaten. Only cost about £3 to feed 6.

    Have a nice day...

    Morning All

Dont like Mondays  weekend seems so far away.

Anyway - damp here but isnt raining, we didnt have great weather over the weekend - cant wait to wake up to some crisp frosty mornings.

Today is office day & I have a lot to get through. OH at home so he will be doing the housework this morning :D

N9eav - talking about depression reminded me I need to get my SAD lamp out today.

Will get some washing done and dried somehow & will make sure its ironed tonight to keep up straight. Not too much OS today, DS has kickboxing at a really pain in the bum time so its omelettes or egg on toast tonight.

Hester - very best of luck.

  • Morning everybody!

I agree with Essexgirl - that the weekend seems far away, but then I have to remind myself that I actually do like the week. My weekend consists of washing and housework mainly LOL!

Jayne and George, you've been in my thoughts a lot this weekend and will continue to be in the week to come. xx

  • Morning Guys!

Not had a very good 24hrs. Leaving at 8.15 for the hospital. It will take about an hr to get there, even though its only 13 miles away because of London traffic. Seeing 3 consultants now as I just had a text from the main one asking if someone else could look at me:o Going to take an overnight bag as they often decide to keep me with no notice, so like being prepared and its too much of a drive for OH to get bits and bobs. I hope they dont do too many tests today as im really not up to it.

BargainRzl-I will wave on my way through:D

WM and DW are both on. House clean and tidy. OH finished ironing yesterday.

Anyway I had better go. Hope evryone is well.

    Keep smiling!

  • Morning all! I've been up for a while putting the first things in my new slow cooker. I've decided braising steak should be nice and easy so that with brocoli and mash is tea. DD's packed lunch is made and I'll be having the last of my HM chcken and veg soup for lunch.
I'm dreading today too as its my friend's ds's funeral. I'm trying not to think about it but I know its going to be awful. He was a small 4 year old and so the coffin is going to be so small. So far my friend seems to be coping as best she can, but it just makes you feel so helpless.
Hope everyone has a good a day as possible.

    Morning all:wave:

Thanks for all the good wishes yesterday, I'm feeling back to normal today thanks largely to cake. Ivyleaf it was the one I made on Saturday, it's all gone now:p:o

I've just been doing a virtual shop at Waitrose and have whittled my list down to the bare esentials. I want to come out with a sizeable amount of folding change this time and I need petrol.

I don't need much in the way of veg this week as we still seem to have a lot in good nick. I won't be buying apples at all as I picked our crop of russets at the weekend. We have enough for a while now, mostly small ones, but they will get eaten.

I'm also not buying fresh fish this week as we have enough tinned fish that isn't getting eaten- mainly because ds1 hates tuna. I have sardines and pilchards too. Must try and think of a way to make an appetising family friendly meal out of some of it.

With the money I save this week I think I'll buy a nice big joint of ham for the weekend and slice the leftovers to freeze for lunchboxes. I've been spending too much on sliced ham.

Breakfast was porridge and various toppings

Lunchboxes are cheese sandwiches, chocolate and raspberry muffins, apples/bananas/clementines. OH has coleslaw and cheese sandwiches and chocolate and nut cake. I shall have a coleslaw and cheese sandwich too, but there's no cake left:(

Supper will be butternut squash and lentil pie (mashed potato topping). Don't ask me for a recipe 'cos I haven't got one yet!

    Have a good day all.

A hug for Jayne and George
