OS Daily Thread - Sunday 11th October

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Sunday 11th October. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS friends,
Lovely uplifting song for today HERE.
Jayne and George, still thinking of you both and sending love and light your way.
Bitsy - I do the spray bleach thingy about twice a week but there are just little bits on the small mosaic border I have that respond amazingly well to the toothbrush attack, and I have to say I really love doing it actually.
I just brush it on, leave it a while and rinse it off. I only really do the couple of feet immediately under where the water hits so it doesn't take long and it looks fab afterwards! (Hmm, I really shouldn't be THAT happy about white grouting should I?)
Curlytop - love the idea of you and your daughter dancing along to Strictly!
Mioliere - Oh I love the idea of a raclette! I shall start persuading my OH that it's healthy and easy and a must-have for the kitchen..
JackieO - Well done to your DD
taplady - Enjoy your time off hon
No Tristan last night but still hoping it might come online today.
Spent about two hours in the garden yesterday. Another lovely sunny day. The sun is so much lower in the sky it lights up different parts of the garden and the light is more diffused than in the summer. It was beautiful. It was definately tshirt weather and I managed to empty a few tomato tubs out (harvested another few lbs - some ripe, but most just blushing or still green so they will be fine on the windowsill) and another 18 - yes count them, 18 full sized peppers. I cannot eat them fast enough!
WM and BM are on and lunch will be left over chilli chicken sandwiches and I have some belly pork for dinner.
And the reason I chose the song at the start of my post was in memory of Stephen Gately from Boyzone who sadly passed away last night - He was only 33.
With love, light and
for everyone who would like one.

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

Morning from down this way.
All quiet in the house, but daughter will be getting up shortly to work at Eden Project where they have their marathon race today.
School opening went well. Spoke with John Nettles who opened it for several minutes about the town etc. Nice bloke who does not like eco towns
Chopped loads of wood yesterday with the log splitter and ordered oil. so all my winter fuel stored and paid for. That's one less thing to worry about.
Had a great leek (from the garden) chicken and bacon pie for tea, small beer and orange drizzle cake. Pie was tasty and easy to make
Today church and then, lounge about I think. I need to e-bay 50 things.... Got to clear out stuff. I will see if I can be bothered.
Have a good day. CheersNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning all!
OH just left for work to feed the hordes, got a bike bike race here today so the hotel is packed to the rafters and they have eaten through so much food I had visions of OH raiding my cupboards and freezers lol!
Popped into Asda en route to collect OH last night, picked up a few of the curry and chinese counter dishes heavily reduced, ds will be very very happy! Was really surprised that a takeaway from the counter only costs £6.50, seems like quite a bargain compared to a normal takeaway, might try one next time - well, when we've gone through the mountain I've bought! Also got a bag of organic lemons, 2 bags of organic sweet pots and 2 trays of baby parsnips for under £1.50 in total, so remembered to grab some mayo ready for sweet pot and parsnip crisps to be dipped in. OH reckons I should give lessons to the catering students on budgeting lol!
OS stuff today will involve the hoovering I couldn't be bothered to do yesterday, some more washing, ironing uniforms and not much else. Having lunch at OH's mums, though it seems that in return we are helping with some clearing and packing ready for the move, and then I'm off up the M4 to collect the kids, fingers all crossed that dd2 is in a better mood!
Have a good day all xxGC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Hi all:j
Been MIA for a week due to hols.
I have to say first Cranky I was so sorry to hear about Paul how very sad....I admire the way you are coping ,please be gentle with yourself in the coming weeks.
Well the hols were a great success:j
We were on a farm in the wilds of north Yorks. DS got to collect eggs every day, take the 2 dogs for walks and spoil the 2 cats with fish:rotfl:
he loved it and it is certainly the life I want.
We had an old iron range fire which we lit everyday and had toast on it for supper.....was like being a kid again. OH and I didnt get much rest, still up at silly o clock;)but thats ds for you. DS seems to love the simple OS life too which is great.
I really recommend the place for hols or weekends....its called Lund Farm.
Today am working my way through the washing and ironing and making a chicken roast dinner.
DS and I found an orchard in the farm where the apples were just being left to rot:eek:.....so came back with carrier full of eating apples and a huge bag of bramleys;).....I think I will make some cider apple butter from River cottage preserves book.....has anyone else made this?.....then will give teachers and childminder a jar of that and of chilli jelly for xmas:T.
Have been full of sinus cold all week..again..the only bad side of winter.
MSD that gave me a shock when I clicked on that song....didnt realise he had died, what a shame. sorry Tristan hasn`t been doing too well.
Bitsy well done on the Ofsted:T0 -

Morning peeps
quite warm today compared with earlier in the week, i didn`t need to run the car for a few mins to warm up this morning - just jumped straight in and off to w*rk.
I feel properly better now today too, first day that i`ve woken without a nasty pain behind my eyes, Dh however has started with the sniffles
He is off fishing for a few days with the houndies so i hope that he will be ok as if he does go down with the same bug there is no way that he will be able to drive such a distance home.
The doggies were all excited this morning running around as they know that they are off for a trip. Just me and the little black cat later so i can hopefully start to work my way through the huge list of jobs to do that has accumulated over the last few days. I hope to have everything ship shape before their return and then i can get on with taking down some more kitchen units.
I made a large pan of chilli last night which DH and i had for tea and there was another 4 portions left to freeze - it was horrible! The mince must have been on the turn and although i hated to do it i emptied the whole lot into the bin afterwards. We made do with the jacket potatoes - quite annoyed though as the mince had come from the supermarket only this morning.
Well i`d best get on, hopefully it won`t be too busy today and i can look forward to peace and quiet this teatime when i get home.
Jayne & George - Thinking of you both x
EDIT - NPM - So glad that you enjoyed your holiday, sounds like you had a great time.
Have a super Sunday peeps.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Morning all,
Looks like its been raining in the night, although its stopped now, but the sky is looking grey , I have our bedding in the wm, and will get dd to strip hers once she is out of it.
DD did not see her dad yesterday as he was ill, I have never known him be ill for even a day before, so it must have been bad, will see if he is up to coming today.
Got four loads of washing dry and put away yesterday, it was like a summer's day. I have ordered quite a few xmas presents already, in fact I have just dd and my BIL to go :T, all ordered online,I really dont like shopping.
Dinner today will be a small piece of pork, which I am hoping will not shrink too much, and will do for tomorrows dinner too, will do roasties and carrots, and I have a cauli cheese in the freezer, must get that out.
Jayne I hope you are managing to rest a bit, hugs to you both xx
Jackie, well done to dd xx
Need more tea, have good days all xx0 -
Good morning
Well, it's very cloudy here and trying to rain at the moment, so probably no gardening today.
Did not get a great deal done yesterday apart from washing work clothes and whizzing through some housework - lounge, bathroom, cloakroom & kitchen. Also found our last hamster had departed last night . Now the only pet left is OH's corn snake.
Anyway, not sure what our plans are yet today, OH is still asleep but not for long. Dinner tonight will be roast chicken and the leftovers will do for sandwiches tomorrow. I also need to shorten some trousers for work.
Diva - hope you hear from Tris soon.
JackieO - congrats to your DD.
NPM - glad you had such a good holiday.
(((Jayne & George)))
Have a good day all

DD1 is off to coach gymnastics, DH is taking her so i will tidy up
have a good day0 -
HI all - just taking a break from the DIY and the housew**k to have a coffee and come on here.
Jayne and George - you are in my thoughts. (((Hugs))) to you both.
Ivyleaf - I answered your post on yesterday's thread about the raclette, but it was quite late in the evening (by French time here!), so I'm just mentioning it here in case you didn't go back on the thread yesterday.
Well, the sun is shining and the sheets are blowing on the line, but there's almost been a frost here overnight, so winter is definitely on the way. I've been told the French winters are short but quite unforgiving - can 't wait!
Anyway, dinner tonight is being kept simple because I have a busy day - the rest of Friday's beef stew with left over new boiled potatoes roasted in olive oil with some herbs.
Have a good day, everyone.

Feeling terrible today:( splitting headache and really bad period pains -well not really bad, but worse than usual. Don't feel like doing anything. Still, I expect I'll feel better by lunchtime.
Not sure what lunch will be, can't really work up any enthusiasm for it. Supper will be rabbit stew or pie. Really can't be bothered to joint the bunny. Wish I hadn't got it out of the freezer now.
Need to bake something for the lunchboxes.
Loads of washing to do and there's damp stuff from yesterday still on the line.
I just want to go back to bed.0
