Beware ALDI parking fines!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife visited Aldi Dover recently and ended up with a £80 parking fine from a third party called Parking Eye. It appears that Aldi now have a 90 minute limit for parking. My wife turned up at the store at 08:00 however the store was shut and did not open till after 09:10 (there are no opening times displayed).
We then recieved a warning note through the post stating that we had been "photographed" exceeding the parking restriction (by 10 minutes) and to pay £80 reduced to £40 for payment within 14 days.
We are very angry about this situation, which smacks of the unregistered clamping scams so often heard of. Anyone that shops at Aldi will know that it can often be a time consuming process, with queues at the tills longer than their rivals. If they don't open on time then you might be at risk.
We intend to complain in writing but just a quick warning.

There's one simple piece of advice(which I nicked off BFG cos its a lot to write):-
IGNORE EVERYTHING [REPEAT EVERYTHING] TO DO WITH ANY PRIVATE PARKING TICKETS - INCLUDING LETTERS FROM OFFICIAL SOUNDING DCA'S OR SOLICITORS'
'IGNORE EVERYTHING [REPEAT EVERYTHING] TO DO WITH ANY PRIVATE PARKING TICKETS - INCLUDING LETTERS FROM OFFICIAL SOUNDING DCA'S OR SOLICITORS'

Just don't pay it. They cannot enforce the notice, and therefore cannot make you pay iy.
There are loads of threads on this matter.0 -
just out of curiosity....did you shop in the aldi store?....reason I ask would be simply present you till receipt (time stamped and dated) and explain what you have stated already....you arrived at xx.xx time...store was closed...you then shopped....should be reasonable enough....I would also imagine that Aldi would be with you in disputing this, especially when you are a customer....
you DID actually shop there? and not just use their customer parking spaces while you went elsewhere?I'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j
Those who can do, those who can't, come to me for lessons:cool:0 -
Plenty of similair situations in the "Parking Fines, Tickets and Parking" forum (in "Home & Play").
Peter's advice is correct - private parking companys (PPC's) cannot fine you.0 -
Yes we did shop there. We were not using it to aviod car parking fees.0

Contact the manager of the Aldi store and explain what has happened...if he's on your side (and he should be) it will simplify everythingI'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j

Why bother contacting anyone? The OP did nothing wrong, and can just ignore the invoice.0

sorry for trying to make the process easier for them...it always helps in disputes of this sort when you have the owner of the property on your side...it may involve less hassle in future...and free gift vouchers from Aldi...it is after all a money saving forum...lolI'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j

Never going to happen with Aldi. Their margins are so tight.Hi there! We’ve had to remove your signature. It was so good we removed it because we cannot think of one so good as you had and need to protect others from seeing such a great signature.0 -
