Changing Name after Divorce

I just simply reverted back to by maiden name. Just told companies and it was fine.
My passport was still in my maiden name, so I didn't need to change that.
It is fairly common for women to keep the maiden names professionally (as they have built up a reputation on that name) and therefore have a 'mix' of surnames. I have a couple of friends who do that and I don't think it has ever caused any problems.0 -
Sorry if this is in the wrong place.... mods please move me if needed, but this seemed like the right place as its all about relationships....
I got divorced 3 yrs ago, but have decided now to change my name back to my maiden name (no particular reason, just something I decided to do)... I am going to re-apply for my passport, but my question is this...
Is a new passport sufficient for banks/ cc companies etc to change my name back to my maiden name, or will I need to change it by Deed Poll aswell?
I checked the Deed Poll website, but its all a little confusing
Thanks everyone

I just took my decree absolute, birth certificate and passport along when I changed back to my maiden name, but that was a few years ago now!:j Almost 2 stones gone! :j

Your decree absolute and birth certificate should be enough. There is no need to change your name by deed pole.
I use both maiden and married name with no problems. Only time I had to be careful was booking flights/holidays as passport was kept in maiden name0 -
Defininitly didn't change it by deed poll. Think I just wrote to the banks etc telling them I ws now divorced and was reverting to my maiden name, I even changed my name back on the mortgage/deeds to the maritial home even though I no longer lived there and pre decree absolute.0

i didn't do it by deed poll.
As far as I remember, as it's the name on your birth certificate you are always entitled to revert back to it.
I'm sure all I did was send my decree absolute, birth certificate and an explanatory letter to the passport office and then used the passport, with the decree absolute and birth cert to change everything else.0 -
I got divorced 3 years ago but kept my married name. I am thinking of going back to my maiden name, do I need any more info to give people other than my absolute? I have to renew my passport which is the reason I am thinking about going back.

Change it by deed poll, the gf had to do it this way after her divorce, silly really as you just can't back to using your maiden name. A solicitor can do it for you or I believe that you can do it online now.0

There's no need to change your name back to your maiden name by deed poll. I certainly didn't and in the case of your passport all you need is your birth certificate and a statment from you saying you have reverted back to your maiden name for all purposes - link here
I think for other things like the bank, I needed my birth certificate and the decree, but it really was very easy.0 -
You don't need deed poll to go back to your maiden name, just inform who needs to know, all the proof they will need is birth cert and divorce decree. I work in personnel and this is all we need, this is all tax man needs too, and if its good enough for the tax man, its good enough for anyone else :rotfl:
I decided not to go back to my maiden name but to use another family name so did go down the deed poll route, that was very easy, used an online firm, just had to fill in details and fax them my birth cert and decree. I did put a notice in our local paper, but that was just me. Was a bit excited when my deed poll came through with my new namewhoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine
