Mmm Moliere, lucky you. I love Raclette! Although being veggie, we do the potato/gherkin etc. version. Not often enough though as the OH hates cheese! Even after all these years I can't get my head round someone not liking cheese! Every year when Lidl have theirs I have told hold myself back from buying one 'cos it would only be used for me! Oooh six wee pans of melted cheese all mine... I'm getting distracted.

My DH will only eat cooked cheese and that's only because I made him try it years ago! Like you, I don't understand anyone not liking cheese - it just doesn't make sense, does it? Don't forget you can freeze hard cheese, so there's no need to go without because you think it's extravagant to buy it just for you.

Jackie0 - well done to your DD. That's great news. Good luck to her when she starts her new job.

    Afternoon all!

Dropped kids off with their dad - well met him half way up the M4 anyway! dd2 still in a right old mood, can't be doing with her sulking and stomping, hopefully she'll be nicer when I pick her up tomorrow! Then came back and got stuck into dd2 an dd3's room - argh! Still going but having a break - guess things get worse before they get better!

OS stuff is limited as taking advantage of them being away to get on with the room, will need to put on some bread in a bit and have a hoover around though.

Will be spending tonight plonked in front of a dvd and eating something yummy, not sure what yet though, kind of hoping oh might cook, but doubtful as he's working this evening, so coming home and cooking after producing several courses for a hotel full isn't going to be very appealing! On the plus side we're off to his mum's for lunch tomorrow :o)

Have a good day all xx

JackieO - well done to your DD:T

I've made the chocolate brownie cookies from the economy gastronomy book but they're not very good:rolleyes: they've stuck to the greaseproof(must get some baking parchment) and they seemed quite runny too - they ran into each other on the tray.I'm usually a good baker so not too pleased as they weren't cheap to make with chocolate and nuts in them - they taste lovely but dont look too good and you get the odd bit of greaseproof in your mouth. Anyone else made them? I'd be interested to know how you got on.
    Do what you love :happyhear
  • Hi Taplady
I made the bran & banana muffins from the same book & took them to work, we all suffered the most embarassing side effects & were known for weeks as the Incredible F8rting Team.

candygirl - Happy Birthday:bdaycake:, whether it's today or another day! have a lovely evening with your friends. I love your avatar! What a little sweetie.

Jayne and George -(((HUGS))), thinking of you xx

    Penny_Pincher - Hope you sleep well x

jackieO - So pleased about your DD!:j It was bad enough having to buy shoes for three, never mind five! Glad Danny is enjoying himself, hope they keep him on!

Hester - Good luck for Monday, I really hope it all goes as it should. Will be thinking of you!

mummysaver - Hope you're having a nice peaceful evening :D

Diva - Thinking of you. Sending virtual (((HUGS))) to Tris next time to chat to him - sorrry he's feeling so bad atm :(

Haribo and Bargainbird - the doughtnut muffins look wonderful, but I don't know what DH's diabetes nurse would say - I don't think I'd better make those :D And after what Hester said, I won't be making bran and banana muffins either
topsyturphy - hope you and DS are having a good evening!

mioliere (and jackieglasgow) - Can you explain about raclette? I saw it on a menu last time we were in France, but my phrasebook just said it was a type of cheese. Is it eaten a bit like fondue or something? Then i'll know whether to order it or not, next time :D

thriftlady - I have a copy of Appetite, so I had a look at the choccy cake - it looks lovely, but even more fiddly than HFW's ginger cake if that's possible! Do you use "proper" coffee in it, or would a good quality instant coffee do? (I tend to buy Carte Noire, as long as it's on special offer ;))

anniestar - Hope your foot is feeling better!

Our DD2 went for an interview with a nursing agency yesterday (she's a paediatric nurse and needs to do extra shifts atm.). The interview went fine, but I was amazed to hear she has to be CRB checked all over again, even though she's been CRB checked for the job she's doing at present! It's apparently taking about 10 weeks atm and she can't work for them until it's done

Still on the soft food today, breakfast was Weetabix (not too much chewing there :D, lunch was crusty bread and Pro-Activ Light for DH, and scrambled eggs for me! Dinner was mince, mash and peas  One of those meals that's simple but always tasty.

    Evening all,

Spent much of the day trying to work out how to make the curtain panels DD4 wants at her French doors...the ones in IKEA are the longest we came across and are 30cm too short! Not sure what architects are thinking about when they design these huge high ceilings..

Managed to get one load of washing done, bit of shopping and dinner cooked....hake and baked potatoes with broccoli and leeks in white sauce, just for OH and me, as the others are staying with a friend to-night...have to get used to just being us I suppose, although the cats and puppy are taking up lots of attention.

Not to rain to-morrow so will do more washing early and get it out on line, hate drying clothes indoors. Need to make some bread too and some pizza bases, plus a couple of weetabix cakes...think I'll go to bed now to be able to get up in time to get all done!

Hugs to all in need or want, special thoughts for Jayne and George

Ivyleaf - I bought my raclette in France a few years ago. Mine is like the oblong one in the picture in the link in my earlier post. You plug the machine in and the stone on top heats up via an element (like an electric grill element) underneath. The idea is that you cook thin slices of meat on the stone and use little pans under the element for the cheese. You can buy the meat and cheese here sliced specially for the raclette; the meat is very thin so it cooks quickly. I also cook on the top slices of tomato, onions, peppers, mushrooms, courgettes - anything you like really. The good thing about it is that it's a very sociable way of cooking when you are with friends - do all the prepping beforehand, then everyone helps themselves and cooks their own dinner!

A similar raclette to mine costs around €45 at the moment; not sure if they are available in the UK but you could look on google.

I thoroughly recommend it so, if you get the chance to buy one, go for it!
