Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Saturday 10th October. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS friends,
Jayne - Still thinking of you both and sending love and light your way. It must have been really emotional for you to receive the letters and read them, I hope they were of some comfort too.
sistercas - Your poor friend, what a horrid thing to find out. Hope your cold gets better soon.
Bitsy - Oh congratulations hon,
that is great news!! And thank you for the kind thoughts.
taplady - Hope you feel better soon hon
Thrift - Normal pancakes make me get all nostalgic. We used to have them sometimes for sunday afternoon tea.. Mum would make us as many as we wanted either plain with just lemon and sugar or with sultanas or raisons in. Occasionally we would have stewed apples inside or be allowed a tsp of golden syrup. Then we would watch Black Beauty on TV.
Bargain - So sorry your husbands family are still not able to have the body released, it must be stressful.
jackieglasgow - Congrats to your husband on his new job, it must be such a relief for you.
Haribo, tired mum, bargain, ivyleaf, mummysaver, Sunnyday -
for thinking of me.
Ok, so the funeral went well. The sun shone all day and there were a lot of people there. Her mum looked so tired. I was glad to be there for my friend and my godson. (Her son)
I am not convinced Tris will be online today. He is angry at the world right now.
Our flat screen monitor went pfuttt last night. I became most indignant with it as we have only had it 7 years and it's only in use every single day!!
Anyway, I went to Tesco Direct via a cashback site and found a screen with £30 off in the sale. Then I used a voucher from this site for free postage and one of my own vouchers for £6 that I earnt in points. So I do feel I did just about everything I could to make it more Moneysaving. Plus it's an inch and a half bigger than my old 17", and I am so blind these days, size really does matter!
Lunch today will be left over sandwiches from the funeral yesterday - we over catered so I had some of the spare, and dinner will probably be chilli salmon with the yellow stickered salmon my OH bought on Thurs. I have to say I have never been a big fan of salmon but willing to try as it was ridiculously cheap!
Other jobs today are either gardening or if rain stops play then to attack the grouting with some bleach and a toothbrush. This is one job I can do sitting on my shower stool! It's the tiny mosaic border that needs it most.
I hope you all have a lovely start to the weekend. With love, light and
for everyone who would like one.

Morning.
The house is pretty quiet with everyone sleeping. Best time of the day I feel. The coffee is brewed which is good as I had one more glass of wine too many last night I think in the office outing.
Off to meet John Nettles today. He is opening the new school buildings where I am a governor and he a former pupil. Should be interesting...
Then it's home for visitors and a log splitting session using a machine instead of me and my chopper.
Got a homemade leek, chicken and bacon pie in my thoughts with some home baked bread.... Should fill the house with good smells when the rains come later in the day.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.... CheersNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning Peeps
bit warmer here today as it rained in the night and i feel quite a bit better today. When i first got up i wasn`t sure but now i`ve been up a few hours i can notice a difference.
The pc here at w*rk is behaving really strangely and the words that i type are appearing on the screen ages after i`ve actually typed them IYKWIM, maybe it caught the bug going around :rotfl:
This morning i`ve put a load of washing in so i`ll probably hang that on the radiators when i get home and have a nap. I will probably get around to making the nice curry that i was planning for DH`s Birthday dinner yestyerday but it will end up in the freezer as we have had curry the last couple of nights as DH has reheated various ones already cooked and although it was good for my cold i`m all curried out now. Not sure what we will have but it will be something simple.
I`m off for a quick browse whilst it`s still pretty quiet and i`ll pop back to catch up later.
Taplady - Hope that you are properly better today
Cranky & George ((((HUGS))))
Have a good one peeps.

Morning everyone.
the cycle of rubbish sleep continues. My back is still playing up a bit after kipping in DS's bed one morning this week and DS visited us at 4am as he'd wet the bed slightly and refuses to wear a nappy. We sneak one on him when he's asleep but he does take them off if he wakes and discovers one on. Anyway he takes up too much room in the bed so I came downstairs to sleep on sofa. Not comfy either so no sleep and then DD woke at 6am.
Think I shall be having a well deserved nap later........
Thank you for all your good wishes over my inspection. I am glad to have got it out of the way as they'd given me 3 potential dates that they might attend on (they try and make it as impromptu as possible). Means I can relax, know that I am doing something right and I have another 3 years before I am inspected again. I am lucky she was so nice, some of them I think have attitudes akin to little Hitlers.
Have to pop to Coscto this morning and pick up some steak mince (have a money off voucher) so more money I don't have. I really need to get some as I don't have any left and I refuse to buy it from the supermarket and the butcher.......I must admit I didn't find him that cheap.
Not sure what to do for tea tonight - should be chicken fried rice or we could have vegetable chilli that I should have done the night before.
N9eav - your home made pie is making my mouth water at the thought of it
Diva - sorry Tris is still struggling. Glad the funeral went as well as could be expected. Scrubbing with a toothbrush at grout? Can you not put some bleach in a spray bottle, squirt everywhere and go and do something else for an hour and then come back and rinse?!! This is how I do mine!
Jayne - I hope the letters from Paul brought not only a tear to your eye but a small smile too xxx
Hugs to those that need them. Have a good day OS or not.
PS. Just edited to add it's lovely and misty here - a real proper October morning. I just love themI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

wanted a lie in this morning but the cat woke me up jumping at the door handle  but I have to say its the best time of the day , so peaceful and quiet , everybody still in bed :T , I.m having a cup of tea and a slice of toast with butter
need to go searching for guinea pigs for DDs birthday next week, having trouble finding some , must be the wrong time of year
beef stew for tea (hoping there will be enough for tomorrow too)
have a good day all xx0 -
Hi, Ive been AWOL most of the week as have been doing some extras at work and haven't seemed to have the time to post.
Jayne and George I am so sorry to hear your news and I think the way you seem to handling it is admirable. Hugs.
Got some washing done yesterday and 2 loads to do today-looks like I'll be ironing this evening.
I'm going to make somee soup this morning for lunches for me for the next few days.
This afternoon we are going to a local wacky warehouse with some friends so we mums can have a gossip and the kids can burn off some energy and then we will have our tea there-hopefully back for strictly during which dd and I will be performing-good thing the curtains meet!!
Tomorrow dd is going to grandmas for a couple of hours so I will be cleaning and then we are going to my mums in the afternoon for tea and to help move furniture (and in dd's place get in the way!). Mum and I got some upstairs yesterday and my shoulders and chest are very stiff today-luckily there is nothing else to take upstairs because it was HARD work!
Hope everyone has a good day.July grocery- 24.40/220. NSD-1/3.

Morning all.
Have had a busy morning so far.
Ordered my new washing machine :j Feeling slightly guilty though as friends washing machine has broken down and they were helping with my laundry
It's DDs birthday soon, so I have arranged for us to stay in Stratford :j:j:j It's one of our all time favourite places to visit
Back to today.
I've got the BM on the go, and have made up some yoghurt for later. DDs and their friends will be making cheese and fruit scones [not in the same mix, although that sounds like a flavour I would try] DD1 wont eat fruit, so she's opted for cheese scones instead.
My kitchen has also turned into a 'homework club' as DDs friends brought their homework project with them, which I scanned so DDs could do it tooIt's amazing where you find educational resources
Anyway, they spend an hour every other night working on their projects and have planned on doing some more after baking.
I'm contemplating going into town to WHSmith, as they have the new Jacqueline Wilson book at half price, which DD wants, but by the time taxi fares have been paid, it would be cheaper to get it full price.
Other than that, it's a relatively easy day.
House is looking very tidy, though how long it will stay that way is anyone's guess!
Glad the funeral went ok Diva.
Have a nice day all.

Morning all,
Bright clear sky's here so far, first of 4 loads has almost finished in the wm, will try and get as much done as possible before we go out walking later.
DD is off out with her dad, so we will all have a good tidy through this morning, then all get out, dd needs to do her bedroom, the estate agent phoned yesterday, we might have a viewing today, think I might reduce the price a bit on monday, as its just not shifting, its a shame as the same lady still wants it from ages ago, but her chain has broken
Nabs for tea tonight, (bread, cheese, ham etc) so very easy and I got small piece of pork for OH and I for tomorrow, and hopefully monday too.
Jayne, I am sure the letters were very bittersweet, but I am sure you will treasure them, Give George and yourself a big hug from me xx
Bitsy, well done you :T I bet thats a relief
N9eav carefull with your chopper (someone had to say it)
Have good days all xx0 -
For those who like cross stitch look here and click on top right corner where is says free book, just the postage to pay, might do someone an xmas pressie.
Pink and Penny, I am not sure this is allowed, but there are so many cross stitchers on here, I can remove it later if you like

Thanks for that redruby.
I love cross-stitching. Haven't done any for ages as I have a trigger finger in both hands and it makes it difficult to hold the threads at times.
You've given me an idea of starting a new one though, to see how I get on. It's just a nuisance when my hands get so stiffThere is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -
Thankyou Redruby, I've ordered it-was a bit disappointed that more books increased the postage so didn't get one(childrens not cross stitch!) for dd. Looking forward to it coming now!July grocery- 24.40/220. NSD-1/3.
