    I would say so, yes.

    After school for a few hours anyway - I'm not sure about all week throughout the holidays.

    Depends how they get on as well though, I guess, as in my experience children with a small age gap tend to fight!

    In a year or so, he should be fine on his own anyway, I'd have thought.

    That's the job grant as you have been on IS for longer than 6 months.

    If you are on IS for over a year and 'sign off' then you get the job grant PLUS the £40pw In Work Credit.

    peronally i cant see why the age is lowered to when kids start full time education @ 5/6. but thats just me.

  • I am in the same situation but I'm going to start my own business as I need flexibility in working hours as I don't have a support network to help if my son is ill. To start I'll be working 16 hours a week.

    I have received a letter from the job centre regarding the stopping of IS and in that letter they said that I would get at least 8 weeks notice of the change. In my case I may have got my business off the ground before then but they will give you plenty of notice.
  • I have been having WFI but my eldest son until a few months ago was getting middle rate DLA so i was getting carers allowance, so they alsways told me about the changes but said it proberly wont affect me.Now im not getting it , it will. I have just received the letter saying the change will be in feb. My eldest and youngest dont get on , as my eldest has some behavour issues due to a mild physical disability and low self esteem, i would trust them for maybe half hour but no longer that that. It would have to be work in a school , where do i find jobs within a school? I know i should contact my WFI lady but my confidence is down a bit and i keep thinking ill do it tomorrow. Was thinking maybe going to college to refresh office skills or do a teaching assistant course but not sure how that would effect my benefits. I currently have a morgage which will be paid up in around 3 years,( although the house is in desparate need of repair) .Thanks so much for all the help and advice

    My eldest certainly looked out for her younger brother when I was working. Taught them both some responsibility.

    Contact the catering department in your LA. I work next to the catering department at my council and there are loads of jobs available for people looking to work in the kitchens of schools.

    Don't forget that school offices don't necessarily close during the holidays.
  • It doesn't necessarily have to be work in a school for term time work. The civil service and local authorities offer part time term time work, as do many other employers - so i wouldn't limit your options to just looking at schools!

    I was the older child in a family and had to do this, I found this very stressful and resented it for years after. Both children need to be comitted to this and from what you say it wouldn't currently work for your family.

    Many organisations support school friendly working hours. Look on your authorities website, most you are able sign up to a regular email of vacancies. HTH.
