at what my sister in law was selling (she doesn't know that I know her ID).

When her last daughter was born I made a real effort to buy something really nice as our relationship had taken a bit of a bash and I wanted to make it clear that I wasn't going to be holding on to any of the sillyness that had gone before. So, I took my time and thought about what to buy and got her something that I thought was lovely and useful too....now I have looked and she is selling it as 'unwanted gift' my heart sank when I saw it. curiosity killed the cat and all that...... just wanted to vent...nobody need reply

I would be upset too but I would do exactly what I say and buy it.

I can imagine how you feel but maybe it's not as it seems - perhaps they are realy strapped for cash and your present is the nicest thing they have that they can sell? she is describing it as an 'unwanted gift' so that means it's been well cared for and looked after and now regretably it has to be turned into cash

How long since is it that you gave her this? I guess that you know not to give her anything good that would sell on easily next time! Dont let her get to you!

Definate opertunity for a little fun here ... ask seller a few questions ... is it brand new? ...has it been used at all? ...is it boxed? ...if you bid and win - can you pick it up in person?... why is it unwanted?

If answer to pick up is no and you bid and win - they won't half get a fright when they see your address for posting !!!

you never know - it may break the ice as far as any bad feelings go - from the sounds of it, you don't have much to loose. If she recognises your address [and she will] perhaps she'll phone and you can talk...maybe even end up having a laugh about it.

Maybe you could get someone else to buy it and then give it to her again as another present - just to see her face would be funny!

I know how you feel because my brother and sister in law did this across me, I brought their son some really nice things for Christmas and Birthdays and soon after they sold them on eBay. I learned my lesson not to buy them anything nice and tend to stick to chocolates etc.

You don't say what the gift was, but if it was clothing it could easily be that the baby outgrew it before they ever got a chance to wear it. My kids were both given more clothes than they could possibly wear in the early weeks. This especially happened with clothes that were very seasonal - for example, my daughter was given a 3-6 month snowsuit which was too big for her one winter, but too small by the following winter. She was also given a couple of really pretty dresses which I put away to keep for "best" and - you guessed it - then forgot about until they were too small. I'd try not to be upset if I were you!
