I'm a lady last time I checked. And no, I'm not married YET (3 months to go), and no, I'm not rich (I've plowed what little money I have into my company), and yes, I am a complete and utter snob in some people's eyes (including my mothers and my own), but hey, I don't mind 'cos thats what I get paid to do. Sort the chaff from the wheat.

I can't think of anything worse than going to this event, I mean, I've worked on BAD events before, and trust me when I say bad (imagine a Father Ted episode then multiply it by a million) but I do love the idea of a scrap in the toliets!!!

So I am guessing you didn't arrange these ones then

Yep I completely agree, its shouldn't be about the money, thats why I'm not spending hardly anything on mine. (Tack free event may I add with the exception being the hog roast but I don't think thats tacky)

This is why I try not to get involved with weddings and try to stick to the production side of weddings, (production being the technical) people have such poor taste and I can't say anything at work, it pains me.

I am sure you will find loads of people who think that is the height of tackiness , but at the end of the day , who cares what anyone thinks

And what on earth is the production side of Weddings ?

(production is the techincal aspect, eg the sound, lighting, staging, getting the artistes on the stage at the right time, working out the load baring capacities of truss etc... as well as stage management, calling/reading the book) I used to work on arena tours, theatre tours etc before my back went, now I just do the event management side of things as I am cripple girl. That means the pre-able to the event and smiling through gritted teeth whilst saying "oh thats lovely!" then puking in a bag at the thought of black roses with yellow wax dripping off them (for example)

And if anyone thinks my wedding is tacky they are un-invited. Given that I've "got" to invite clients (not best pleased about that but I suppose it is a showcase of my work and makes them feel important) and only spending £4 per head I was quite chuffed, we don't know any veggies (thank god) so thats saved hassle. 'suppose the could eat a bread cake. Or starve. Either is fine by me.

www.tackyweddings.com is my new fave website, thanks for that frannyann!!! That is on par with cakewrecks. And I LOVE cake wrecks. Nice one!
I run an event management company, I put on events, I go to events, if I don't know anything about events - its not worth knowing!

I think it's a nice idea, you spend a fortune on a lovely dress that you feel fabulous in, then never get the opportunity to wear it again. So this means that you get another chance to look and feel gorgeous and enjoy a night out with your OH whilst raising money for charity. What's wrong with that? If it's not for you, then don't buy a ticket but I find it difficult to understand why you would start a thread criticising an event.

Because I put on events for a living and find it tacky.... need I any more reason than that?

I work in the events business, not the wedding business, like I have said on previous posts, I try to avoid weddings because of the bridezilla's of tack.

Just because you put on events for a living does not mean you are the ultimate arbitor of taste. Nor, does it mean your own events are "tasteful" per se, just that you find them to be so, and your clients, who by your own admission have no taste, let you tell them they are. Money does not buy taste, nor does it necessarily buy the services of someone with taste;)

What I meant by renewing vows was having a new "ceremony" and a wedding type party. Actually, renewing vows again is not my cup of tea either,( our take on this after being married 28 years is that we said them once, meant them, kept them, so why do we need to renew them?) but the party sounds good. I wouldnt begrudge anyone revisiting their special day again, we had a blast at our wedding and I would love to do it again.

Actually, I find your attitude to weddings, guests, and obligations, quite sad considering you are weeks away from your own. Or maybe that is the problem? latent bridezilla syndrome? chill out and live and let live.:D

Ha Ha - love this website - the mini-me bridesmaid dress is awesome ;)!!!

You would never find me at one of these balls, only because I wouldnt be one to prance round showing myself off, I would have had my chance of that on my wedding day and wouldnt cope with doing it again. Each to their own though but definitely not for me, I could only imagine OHs face if I told him we were going to one of these balls! :D
