Of course, if you don't download from bit torrents, stay clear of adult sites and never install anything from t'interweb, you're probably not going to get so much of a virus problem anyway. Or use a mac.

Hmm - I've had no such issue on 6 machines I installed MSSE on. Perhaps you had some other conflicting security software running in parallel?

Just to add that Softpedia.com is a good place for software.

Oh and Linux is a better alternative to windows and openoffice is a better alternative to m$ office.

Don't think so.
I properly uninstalled Avira (using Add/Remove programs). Rebooted (as it suggested) and then installed MSSE from the installer I'd downloaded earlier.
I also have the PCTools free firewall installed but that's been on there for ages.
