Is £1.50 p&p normal for a CD

  • I'm going to disagree with the general feeling on this post and say that I would think that it was reasonable to be annoyed. Quite often, I buy things on Ebay and see the postage price and agree to it, and it arrives wrapped beautifully in bubble-wrap, strong jiffy bag etc. Sometimes I pay the same price and it arrives half hanging out of a ripped envelope with no padding or anything. Just because the OP agreed to the price in advance, it doesn't mean that it was definitely a reasonable price unless it had been made clear what sort of packaging would be used.

I'd be esepcially worried that the CDs just arrived in a sleeve. When you buy a CD on Ebay you should be able to assume that it will come as standard unless otherwise specified. It was perfectly reasonable to assume that it would be in cases (and that would also have made the postage costs more reasonable because of the weight). Were the CDs original ones or copies?

Mind you, a lot of this is Ebay's fault I think - they used to be very clear that you could not overcharge on P&P but they are getting more and more commercial, requiring some items to be postage free and it blurs the boundaries about whether or not postage is just part of the whole price. Lots of the new terms and conditions that they have included make the whole thing much less enjoyable than it used to be. I hardly ever buy or sell on there now.

Also just noticed you said you expected cases rather than sleeves. If the auction didnt state they were being sold with the sleeves not the cases then i think you've got grounds for not as described?

Did the auction state method of postage? If the auction just said something like 'sellers standard rate' then you can't really leave them poor stars as they are able to send via any method. Personally though, i think £1.50 2nd class postage for a cd in a sleeve is a little much, i think £1 would've been a more reasonable cost.

I would be more than happy to leave lowered stars for this transaction. Yes a buyer can see what they are being charged but when it comes to leaving stars they are not being asked whether they agree that the price is as charged they are being asked to reflect the buyers experience of the postage.

As a buyer you can leave whatever stars you like its your experience of the transaction

I'm well aware of how ebay works, thanks.

What i was saying was that i wouldn't personally leave them poor stars if they didn't state what method of postage they were going to use. I did also say that i thought the postage cost was higher then i thought was fair.

The whole point of DSR's is that it is subjective. What you would do is not necessarily what I or anyone else would do, or it may be the same as what I or everyone else would do.

Ultimatley, it is up to the OP to make their own mind up as to how they felt the transaction went. No amount of arguing, reasoning, opinion giving, shouting, head shaking etc will ever resolve one of the many "I paid too much for P&P" threads.

Not until all of eBay goes "free" P&P...

    Hi Soolin,

Thank you for your reply, the stamp in question is a large one and says on it 2nd class large
    xx

They are 47p each and cover a 'large letter' up to 100g. (Assuming it's a blue stamp and not a printed label).

Most stamps are self adhesive, I'd stop wetting them if I was you. (If yours aren't self adhesive, change, and save a few pennies)

mmm no - only first/second class stamps are self adhesive and as a universal thing that's fairly recent. My local PO hasn't run out of the ones you lick yet. The interminable commemorative issues mean that they rarely sell normal ones.

Other values are lickable - but the PO prefer to print labels unless you specifically ask for stamps.

I do recall hearing an e-bayer asking at the PO to send something second class without it being obvious to the recipient - solution was to use a mixture of stamps. Yes if you added them up and knew the rates you could tell - but not at first glance.
