WHERE have you seen me moan??? PLEASE Quote!!all I asked was a perfectly reasonable question civilly. and yes I have bought on line before, I am house bound and do a lot of shopping on line,
Surely if you make a nice sum then it has to be worth the effort!!!! like standing in a post office queue.

It was fine until you used the sarcastic smile. I am only speaking for myself here. I value my time. I value my time at more than the minimum wage. If I can get a number of items posted at the same time, that is fine. But occasionally I find myself sending individual items, which can be irritating, but accept this happens from time to time.

As for buying online, you will find it quite normall to pay a lot more for postage. These aren't unreasonable companies. These, too, are companies who often pay more than the minimum wage too.

This always occurs with auctions when you buy multiple items. Usually included in the postage cost is a minor profit for the individual concerned.

I once had someone charge me 6 quid for buying 10 99p postage items together. These were playing cards and excluding his time and packaing materals he used a small envelope and a large 1st class stamp. Not even recorded delivery. He made a bout 4.50 off my postage... but i saved by buying in bulk ifsywim so i wasnt unhappy.
We see this a lot in our market (we sell Pokemon cards). Sellers asking £1 per card, and 50p per additional card. We know you can send over 100 cards for about £1, so they're making huge P+P profits when people buy more than one at a time.

OP, you knew the price you were paying when you bought the items and were obviously happy, so !!!!!ing about it afterwards is a bit unfair on the seller.

I wonder how many of these "have I paid too much in P&P" threads there would still be if everyone used paypal postage and removed the price paid from the label.

I also think the Post Office could make a fortune by charging an extra 1p per label to remove the price from the label...!

Yes I can see your point but I also think your being a bit nit picky. A few days ago I bought 3 pencil eyeliners on ebay and got charged 3 pounds. Alls it come in was a 2nd class stamp wrapped in a carrier bag folded up

I wouldn't dream of charging £1.50 post and packing for a CD, as others have said stamp price is 76p and an envelope about 10p and personally I think the risk of low stars for charging an extra 64p is too high.

It isn't what we on here think we can justify for 'extras' it is always what the buyer thinks, and if only 1 in 10 leaves a lowered star then you can wave goodbye to best match visibility.

My only additional question here is that OP says items arrived with a 2nd class stamp..can you please clarify what stamp actually was attached, was it just second class postage which for 4 CDs would actually have been around £1.85 (packet up to 500g) or was it literally a second class stamp?

EDIT> Just noticed OP says CDs just in sleeves, in that case I would be leaving poor stars as all the weight of a normal CD is in the jewel case and inserts, a basic CD in a sleeve even 4 of them would be likely to get posted much much cheaper as the total weight of the package based on stuff sitting here on my desk would be less than 250g on a large letter stamp at 76p. Charging £3 on a 76p parcel is excessive and I am surprised that seller still has workable stars.

    Hi Soolin,

Thank you for your reply, the stamp in question is a large one and says on it 2nd class large.

I am still confused why I am having so much backlash to my original post, as far as I can see I have never moaned about the cost of the postage, just stated that I was surprised to see a a 2nd class stamp after paying £3.

Did the auction state method of postage? If the auction just said something like 'sellers standard rate' then you can't really leave them poor stars as they are able to send via any method. Personally though, i think £1.50 2nd class postage for a cd in a sleeve is a little much, i think £1 would've been a more reasonable cost.

    Hi Carrie

Yes it did state that the postage was £1.50 and 50p thereafter for multiple buys, so I knew exactly what I was paying, but having said before, being relatively new to ebay at least expected the CDs in a case rather than a sleeve, and would like to reiterate that I am not moaning or nit picking as some posters would like to believe.

Anyway thank you for your reply

I wasn't suggesting you was ;) i think your question is quite reasonable.

What i meant though was did they state whether they were sending the item via 1st, 2nd class or just did it just say sellers standard rate (i think thats the term they use on there)

  • Basically a lot of people charge the postage they think they can get away with to bump up their profits. Postage is not included in the Final value fee. The funniest example I saw of someone trying it on was a DVD boxset selling for 99p with postage of £49.99.
