You seem to forget that Santander Zero Credit Card charges 29.7% interest for cash withdrawals
Can't you get around that by keeping the balance in credit?

    No idea.

I'd never use a Credit Card to withdraw from ATMs except in dire emergency. One of the few benefits of my age is eligibility for the SAGA Platinum card as a backup of last resort - which charges a 2% cash withdrawal fee but no interest on cash withdrawals if cleared in full.

By keeping your credit card in crebit you loose section 75 protection as it is against their T&C.

Providing you are not using the Zero card for anything else like purchases or a 0% balance transfer and can arrange via internet banking to clear the balance the same day or soon after it's not a bad idea to use it to withdraw cash abroad. But a Nationwide debit card or cashcard is the more straightforward option.

I would order enough foreign money before leaving the UK for the holiday. I think it's cheaper that way.
    ???

Nationwide charge nothing in Europe, 1% elsewhere.

The best suppliers in the UK charge around 2 or 3% (in some cases plus a delivery fee)

The High Street average is around 5 or 6% - more with obscure currencies.

    So how is that cheaper??

Ah I know - you believe the Post Office (and others) NO COMMISSION guff.
  • Thanks for all the replies people! Makes me feel a lot less picked on to hear your stories! I forgot to mention that I did offer to let them be my main account and was still rejected!
This cash card thing is that different from a flex card then and can you get that another way?

It comes with the basic Cash Card account for which you have to apply by post - you can obtain an application pack from NW branches.
  • To be honest they arent great anyway. My mate got an acc with them just b4 he went to debt managment on 25 grand. They gave him visa debit 100 quid cheque card and 600 o/d they won't increase it no matter well he manages the acc. They charged him the other day for savings acc statements that he needed to produce as they had to be certified etc.
