Why is anyone surprised that Cash4gold and all their ilk pay only a fraction of the true value of the Gold? Its a given surely, they're hardly going to give you market value.
They were in Which? a few months back, something along the lines of £100 worth of gold, valued at £6 by Cash4gold. But again, why would this surprise anyone!
Its like those ridiculous Envirophone (and others) ads, the only time they'll ever pay you £150 for your used phone is if its a brand new iphone that you've literally just purchased for £500.0 -
music magpie is even better, 20p for some 2 yo games!! £6 on ebay0

It's fascinating to see the vast array of comments about the cash for gold industry. We are a gold buyer and it's really a shame that some companies like cash4gold have really tainted the industry and made alot of people very angry. Our family business has been around since the early 80's. Needless to say, because of the price of gold today, there is alot of greed and fierce competition in the industry. We believe that some companies won't last. Other companies that believe in good customer service will definitely survive in the long haul to provide people with a nice alternative to converting their broken or unwanted gold to cash. It's really fun to watch as the industry evolves and how people react to all the changes. It's not for everyone so please do your homework and only work with companies that have a great reputation!
Best regards,

It's just a variation of a business that's been around for a long time.
Common sense would dictate that using a middleman to buy/sell will result in a lower price and less profit, as he'll have to sell it on to make his fee.
I'd never use a cash for gold service- I would consider auctioning or selling direct to a trusted jeweller.0 -

I may have a common name, but i am no liar. I posted twice on this subject alone because, and let me be clear here I was so happy at the price Manchester Gold Co gave me AND I was so disgusted with various other prices I received, one from a postal gold company and two from local (to me ) jewellers that i felt absolutely compelled to write . I also made it very clear that Lois is also a good company, they did make a good offer, and if you think that I am spamming, then this is a flawed sort of forum. People should know more names of honest companies out there and not just the ones who get their customers to advertise for them eg hatton garden metals ..
And lets get one other thing clear here. You have to see the weight to know whether you have got a good deal. That is see the weight. The Manchester Gold Co have Trading Standards approved scales and weighed my gold at 2.7 grams more than my home scales. You can't see the weight if you post. Anyway I've had my say.0 -

Can't think why you should find it fascinating - predictable perhaps.Never ever give your card details to anyone over the phone, and check the reputation of any company you do intend to give them to.0 -
