I actually used scrap gold buyers to sell my gold to, they have a calculator to work out the values of the gold before you send it. The service was great and I had the money in my account the very next day after I sent it. The even paid the postage! I guess they are not all bad...:-)0

Hmm, yes maybe. I think I'd rather go to my local Jeweler though; be albe to ask questions and return the gold if you aren't satisfied. I wouldn't really feel safe mailing it either.0

I just sold my unwanted gold to Lois in Birmingham. I have been thinking of doing this for months and was looking at sending it to Hatton Garden Metal who publish their rates and seem really well regarded, but the information on their website seemed to suggest that their testing process may damage the jewellery and as most of what I was selling was unwanted but undamaged I didn't want this. The answer machine at Hatton was asking you to leave a message but was full so i couldn't leave a message to check this out with them.
Also I was not happy posting it.
Lois published slightly higher rates, i was able to speak to someone on the phone who explained that they xray the gold and this gives them an accurate reading of the fineness of the gold. I had a small amount of 24ct Indian gold and they warned me that it may in fact only be 22ct due to impurities. It xrayed at 22.8ct.
Lois are based about 1 mile from Birmingham New Street Station and have a public and trade counter and car park. My other half went down on Saturday morning on the train and watched as they tested the gold and was offered cash, cheque or bacs at their published rate for the day.0 -
Have a read of this link http://www.bitterwallet.com/tag/cash4gold

I will be interested to know if you would still use them after reading the information
Cash4Gold declined to discuss the test results, but other news reports suggest lowball checks are typical. CEO Aronson has said the company pays from as little as 20% to as much as 80% of the gold's value. And in an interview with Good Morning America, he suggested that customers who want more money should take their business elsewhere. "If all you care about is the net dollar, and you're willing to go to the seedy part of town, and you're willing to travel around ... I want you to go there," Aronson said.0 -
I didn't know you could xray gold, that's really interesting. I have some undamadged jewelry at home waiting to be sold, but the determining-the-carat-by-chemical-means part has always discuraged me. Perhaps I should look it up. I mean I could really use the cash right now, but how doesn't these days.0

Unsolicited callers at my door get to play the two word game. They have the first word, which is any verb of their choice, and I have the second, which is invariably 'off'.;)
