  • Hiya

Please can someone advise me? I've read the thread but I have no idea about laptops so it's all a bit confusing!

I'm looking for a laptop, max spend £600ish. I wil be using it for basic office stuff, the internet and maybe writing dvd's. I would like it to have the wireless thing so I can use the internet anywhere in the house.

Can anyone recommend one for me please??

    TIA

    Hello Sarinkov

If you have a branch of Comet nearby, have a look at the laptops on display to help you make your mind up.

I found their information boards very helpful. Like you, I'm confused about what to buy. I picked up a copy of Comet's 'The Computing Buyer's Guide' book......it is packed with useful information.
    Hope this helps.

    Wonder if anyone can help...

Currently have an IBM Thinkpad X22 which has been great zipping up and down on the train up to London and back. Also good for sitting in front of the TV with.

Trouble is Im going to be working away from home for 3 - 6 months staying in hotels and B&B's. Couldnt have happened at a worse time!

Im going to need to replace the laptop for something with a bigger screen, doesnt matter what the girls say 12" just isnt enough when your trying to read cisco labs. Ive seen a Toshiba A60 A60 on Watford and Ebuyer for just over £500 but its a celeron and ive never really been a fan.

Are there any really good deals about at the moment?

Ideally i want centrino with 512mb ram but i can easily upgrade the ram myself and the hard drive if necessary (laptop will have to dual boot linux and xp).

Yeah ive waffled long enough, any good deals on centrino laptops would be appreciated

At least it's one of those older Celerons with a 256kb cache though I don't know how these stack up. I'd spend the extra £50 and get the Comet suggestion above.

    A much better processor.

Hi can anyone recommend the best laptop I can get for around £1000,
I need to be able to transfer footage from miniDV camcorder (with Firewire) to DVD with a little editing.
Other uses surfing movies, office. possibly few games as well.
I don't mind if its not too portable and if the battery life is rubbish, although it would be nice if the noise was bearable.
I know I'll get more for my money if I buy a PC but I'd like to be able to go from room (so wireless) to room inorder to get away from the kids for an hour or two.
    any help would be appreciated.

Must admit although I like the prices I don't trust Comet or any of these big retailers to deliver on time. I'd rather go to the shop and pay the extra. Hope it arrives today.
