Thanks everyone for your advice, especially Grahawk for the shortcut to the Comet page.

I just emailed the link to my pc guy and he said "snap it up, I'd buy it now"
Thanks Mike, I might just do that0 -
Nile,
I hope you don't mind but I've merged your thread into the "laptop discussion" thread, which has loads of viewings. I hope this doesn't confuse you but helps you to get even more info.

This looks a very good price, although I don't think it is wireless is it? Is there a wireless equivalent?0 -
I was thinking of getting the DELL 1150 laptop but would need a wireless option for internet at some stage is it worth buying the Dell card or are they easy enough to fit yourself and probably cheaper ?

I went to Comet on Saturday and saw the ACER model that Grahawk suggested. Unfortunately they didn't have the FUJITSU SIEMENS model that JPS suggested, for me to compare the two.
So I'm still making my mind up. I picked up a copy of 'The Computing Buyer's Guide' from Comet.......which will help me with the technical jargon.

Nile, I think it would help the experts on here as to how/what you want to use the laptop for. I had already spoken to my pc guy beforehand about a laptop and he knew that as I already have a desktop with wirelss connections, dvd rewriter etc so he knew that the Fujitsui Seimens laptop in Comet was fine for my use.
For the money it appears to be a great buy but then I will just be using it for surfing and email by adding a wireless connection as it doesn't have a modem.
I store my photos on my desktop and my daughter plays her games on the desktop too which this laptop is not particularly equiped for.0 -
Well this one is now £449 - a real bargain.

Meanwhile Comet who seem to always have good deals are doing this Pentium-M/Centrino for £569.
