    Hi froggy

it would be used for everything generally I suppose, no real specific use

Internet, Microsoft Office, iTunes, Digital Photo's, possibly some 3D computer modelling
Was looking for something around the £300 mark really, but this one seemed a good spec for the £400

What alternatives would you have in mind?

I also looked at this one FUJITSU SIEMENS ESPRIMO V5535

comet have that laptop but they list it with a better spec at £299 http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/435864/FUJITSU-SIEMENS-ESPRIMO-V5535

That Tesco one is quite nicely specced for the money, it's the one I'd go for I think ;)

That tesco one is also in comet at £399 but you can collect it in store or get cash back through quidco - just incase tesco sell out

Has anyone come up with a list of best buys at all? I have looked at a few pages on this thread but every reply talks about a different laptop or deal. We need 2 Gb RAM with 120 Gb upwards hard drive. Please?

I think we are all looking for the holy grail! I wouldnt mind comments on this refurbished Laptop at PC World. They even bothered to put on 2Gb to support Vista (shockerooni!) instead of the normal 1, also has 120GB hard drive:

    Advent 8315 Recon

Looks a bargain price for what you get

I've gone off Advent brand over the last yr or so. The build quality was always entry level, but its got a lot poorer imo.

Refurbished means secondhand. Probably returned with an intermittent fault that nobody could repeat after 2mins of trying, so they sell it again.

Hmmm, I will bare that in mind! last laptop we had was an Advent and it did act up pretty quickly.

No surprise I have seen something else that catches the eye! :rolleyes2

Hi all, looking for a decent laptop under 500£ although budget could stretch a bit, preferably 2.0+ghz and 2gb+ ram. Also a decent graphics card because i do have a few hard hitting pc games! So far I have found this although it really does stretch the budget: http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/437174/SONY-VGN-NR21Z-T.CEK/tab/specification . Any help is appreciated, thanks!

EDIt: also, I have noticed that American laptops are significantly cheaper than uk laptops, any idea if there would be any technical differences between the two because other wise ebay usa seems a good stop.

careful with overseas buying - there is a support issue if you have problems with what you bought but also in terms of money you could be hit with import tax and suddenly that cheap deal isnt so cheap anymore!

Mesh are in the ball park but good luck with a 2Ghz+ laptop under 500!! (wish I could find one! - someone will now prove me wrong! :rotfl: )
