Solicitor married to my doctor - uncomfortable about using
Comments
-
ooops - doctor isn't allowed to tell ! As in, they are forbidden !
I'd be changing my doctor and making a formal complaint to the PCT.
And using another solicitor.
Is that true? About the doctor not being able to tell? I didn't even consider that.
What is interesting is other peoples reactions to my post - I am feeling less daft by the moment, thanks guys! I thought I was over-reacting, but then I kept having this vision of them sitting up in bed together and discussing me. Which makes me feel rather queasy, I can tell you.....
I think I will not use him, as apart from anything else I think that pillow-talk vision will stay with me throughout any contact I have with him. I will start phoning round and trying to find another solicitor - back to the drawing board.
Thanks to all, and any other reactions I will be interested to read as well...

Oh yes, I think she's on my list
S: Oh, I'd better let her know.
Cool, thanks hon 0 -

It does sound a very strange thing to check, when you put it like that.
I still can't quite figure out ... Why ??0 -
Its possible/easy to do your own probate administration. I've done two already. Depends how straightforward it is.0

Because they are professionals?
They would have to make you aware of it; it's part of the code. They haven't necessarily discussed you, or your 'problems' - in fact that would be MORE likely if he hadn't mentioned it.
ETA: If my boss or my chums or my OH comes across a potential customer we talk about it; if one of us had a conflict of interest, we would declare it - that's what he has basically done to you. It's the right thing to do!0 -

This doesn't sound right to me? I'm not a 'customer', I'm a client/patient, and both professions are supposed to be completely confidential. How could there be a conflict of interest between them, if neither of them knows that I am part of their respective 'lists'?
This also contradicts some of the earlier posts....

I agree.
For example if two conflicting clients were hoping to use the same solicitor or law firm then it would be a conflict of interest. But how can a family doctor and solicitor have a conflict in this particular situation?

Conflict of interest in that you are a client/patient/customer of both of them. I used conflict of interest in MY situation not theirs......
What would you have preferred; for him NOT to mention it and continue; and you coming on here in 6 months saying 'OMG my doctor and solicitor are married!!!!!!:eek::eek::eek: I saw them together in Tescos'
Calm down, and realise that what he has done is to inform you of the situation. What you do as a result is up to you.0 -

Are you out of the ordinary interesting then?
Of the medical professionals I know and have known (ahem) I am not sure that patients/clients really ever came up for general discussion at home - certainly not pillow talk stuff
I mean this in the nicest possible way but I think there is a chance you could be reading a little too much in to the situation.:)
That said if you feel uncomfortable about being a patient/client now - I should change your GP and use a different solicitor0 -
If this was about making you aware of potential links then why not say something like:
'Just to inform you, I can see by your postcode you may be a patient of my wife, who is a GP at _ _ surgery...'
No need at all to ask his wife if she is a client, and in fact, it seem very unprofessional to me! She has no need to know who his clients are and he has no need to know who her patients are!
I wouldn't be happy about it anyway!0
