I think people go to Benidorm so that they CAN eat English food. How many English food places are there in the High St over here ? All foreign is what I see.

I watched an episode of this last week. I thought it was hilariously funny.

I have never been to Benidorm (the place) and if it's a place you go to to get fish and chips and roast beef, then definitely not. We recently came back from the Pink Granite Coast of Brittany and my abiding memory is going to be of DH eating moules mariniere.

I never miss an episode, brilliant comedy. I did see a documentry on benidorm last year (I think) about entertainers down there & that did put me off going, it seemed to be all strip clubs & loud drunken brits.

Benidorm is as british or as international as you want it to be.It can be quite upmarket or as basic as you want. You can eat British,Chinese,Indian,French, German, Dutch, Morrocan and btw there are hundreds of Spanish bars, cafes and resturants.
The place is massive, and has 3 totally different areas, Levante, Old Town and Poniente.
It also has some fantastic entertainment, where else can you get 3 or 4 top cabaret acts for the price of a few drinks ?
For families, 2 of Europes cleanest beaches, a water park, a theme park, a tropical bird park and a safari park/zoo

I was so looking forward to the return of Benidorm - there's very little on TV that makes me laugh out loud apart from Catherine Tate and reruns of Fawlty Towers but the other series of Benidorm did. BUT I just didn't find it very funny last week. Did the last series used to be an hour long or were they 30 minute episodes. It just felt dragged out. I shall keep watching and hope it gets better.

What the TV comedy shows you is the part of Benidorm called "the British Square". This area was specifically built to attract the brits. It has many bars, restaurants and entertainment. But that is not the whole of Benidorm.
It may shock some of you to know that the Spanish holiday there. The town has a wonderful park leading up to a bull ring, a large tapas area full of atmosphere. There are two large promenades where may Spainsh stroll of an evening. It is very popular weekend retreat for the middle classes from Madrid.
It is also well populated in winter by the Dutch. So, don't judge a book by its cover, look a bit deeper! Who knows, you may even like it!

When I went to Benidorm a few years ago there wasn't much sign of spanish food. All british and chinese restaurants. Made me laugh in our hotel (all-inclusive) they usually had a special on.. one day they had some delicious fish and I went back 3 or 4 times for more because there was no queue. Next day the special was roast beef and yorkshire puds and the queue went all the way out of the (large) restaurant.

If anything the show makes Benidorm look less Chavvy than it acually is.

the 'old' town has some fantastic spanish restaurants offering typical fayre but you have to go find them,

for a more up to date view of 'Beni' look at this site

well ive never been to benidorm, just back from america, but tbh i quite fanct going to there, just for a few fun days.
anyone know what tour operator deals with the hotel featured in benidorm???

The hotel is the Sol pelicanos / Ocas, Thomas Cook definitely do it, flexibletrips.com in fact i think most of the major operators deal with it. Its a very nice hotel with several pools in a good location and the food is excellent from champagne for breakfast, theme nights and a couple of fresh items cooked in front of you at every meal time along with rows of a large selection of food to choose from.
If you fancy a cheap weekend break december is a great time to go, cheap flights, christmas decorations and trees up, a big market wednesdays and sundays for your christmas presents, stock up on your duty free spirits, plenty of entertainment. The only down side is the weather is a bit tempremental it can be gorgeous and warm enough to sit on the beach or a bit nippy and some rain.

I too LOVE Benidorm (the sitcom) I think it is about the funniest thing on tv at the moment!
I would never have contemplated holidaying in Benidorm, as its Blackpool in the sun reputation precedes it, but I am having second thoughts!
