I just LOVE my penny pot!

Well I had a bright idea in August to use an old coffee jar (well it is money saving isn't it!) - to put our loose change in it!

The "rule" of the house was any change under £1.00 (so really 50p and less) goes straight from the pocket and into the jar!

I was saving it for Christmas but we have decided to go away for a couple of days so I took it to Asda to the machine and I was watching it add up and add up and add up............

I was amazed that there was £208.21 in it!

Honestly I thought there was about £60 pounds in it!

THE RULE THOUGH! Tape up the jar/tin until it is full!

Give it a go and let me know!

(You don't miss a penny but you'll love the pounds)
Total Quidco earnings - £547.98

Everyone is scared of someone or something, everyone loves someone or something, and everyone has lost someone or something! BE NICE!

  • we have the money tins at work (for tips) that you cannot open without a tin opener there great

like you say theres always more than you think
  • My mum always had one of these when i was a kid. She had this thing with my brother and I, that if we could guess how much was in it, we could keep it. Needless to say, every school holidays when it was emptied, there was much excitement......then disappointment.
(As a mum of 2 now, I know she probably spent it on us anyway!)

We have a "mortgage pig" as recommended on Mortgage Free Wannabee board. Once the Piggy is fully fed, it is cashed up and paid off our mortgage as an overpayment. I agree with OP it is amazing how quickly the money adds up - a great way to save without really feeling like you are (until the day to empty it comes along!).

Well done for saving all of your loose change, but what percentage do those machines take for counting it? Even more money saving if you could count it at home next time.............. it can be a pain getting the bank to take it sometimes though.

If you bank with HSBC they now have change machines in branches to pay directly into your account :) It's fab for penny jars!!
My account gets used for people at work that aren't with HSBC lol they pay into my bank, see how much it is, then I draw that amount out for them :)

I love how penny jars are almost always more than what you expect!!!
Wondering how to have a life & not rack up more debts...

They take 8.9 pence in every pound (I was left standing next to the machine for far too long earlier today as my girls wouldn't get off the ride on bus...)
  • I have a cash counting tin and have got £257 saved in it so far seeing the amount increasing keeps me motivated as whatever is in there is the only spending money allowed when I go to Egypt for New Year.

Cash back site money is being saved for my Oz holiday in March as well as anything added to the tin after I get back from Egypt.

Does anyone know Yorkshire banks rule on paying in bagged money? I know some banks only accept limited amounts but no idea what the limits are.
    :D:rolleyes:;):cool::o:rolleyes:;):o:o:cool:
