I was saving 1s, 2s and 5s in a 3 litre vodka bottle last year, but it got knicked out of my car when I was living on my friend's couch. Now we have three tins that you have to open with a tin opener, and the 2p one is almost full I reckon...... I def will be counting them myself, I love doing itDFW Nerd no 239.....Last Personal Debt paid off Nov 2012!

I just can't believe that either I'm completely baffled as to why people who are saving in coin jars would contemplate paying to use those machines, it doesn't make any sense whatsoever to me!
Plain and simple because the banks can get really arsey if you take more than 5 money bags in.
I work full time, the only time I can get to the bank to pay cash in is a saturday morning.
I cant even imagine how many trips to the bank it would take to pay in all the money I save from a gallon Vodka bottle?Debt £30,823.48/£44,856.56 ~ 06/02/21 - 31.28% Paid OffMortgage (01/04/09 - 01/07/39)

But if you've got the patience to save it for months, why do you feel the need to bank it all on one day? Or why not use a smaller container for saving and bank smaller amounts? Or find anyway round it except to pay someone else for the privilege of changing your money?? LOL I must be very mean!0 -
We have 3 tins....
1 for £2 coins which we use for spending money at our twice yearly Center Parcs breaks
2nd for £1 coins which is rainy day savings
3rd for 1ps, 2ps and 5ps because I can't stand them in my purse.
My best was £364 in the £1 jar which we banked earlier this year :T

Men especially don't like carrying lots of change around - and never pay for anything with pennies. So when my hubby empties his pockets on the table every night he puts the pennies into his imitation of Guiness glass piggy pot. And I do as well when my purse is overflowing.
Once in a while we empty it and I take it to the bank and pay into our joint account (never had a problem, but usually have just about £10 in it) when I do work banking and then we usually buy couple of bottles of wine.. :rotfl:0 -

No, I completely agree!!0 -
Mainly for me because I am usually saving for something in particular (this time its for baby's nursery furniture) so I cant take 20 weeks to take it to the bank
I do get what you are saying though.
I may go to Lloyds and ask them how many bags we can take in at once.
I do hate parting with my money lol

They've always given them to me when I've asked for them

Dont forget to check your pots for "mule" 20p's before you cash them in.
I found one in mine a few months back but not decided what to do with it yet.0 -
Liverpool City Centre seems to be a good place for banking coins, as the new Barclays, HSBC and NatWest all seem to have the machines!
Remember too if you have a First Direct account you can use the HSBC ones as well! I did this today and banked just under £20 of coins that would probably have just sat around collecting dust otherwise!
Cheers
